I dunno why Bush is being pushed opposite. She needs to be on the left for Washington, and I've never waivered from that. Blocking against the other team's left-side hitters. UW's other outside hitters have been less effective blockers. Passing and setting would be critical. Really a question of do you gain more than you lose, or do you lose more than you gain.

If we gained more by having Bush RS to block, we would have seen more of it in 2022. This is NCAA ball, unless we have an all world setter, we gain the most by having the best outlet attacker on the left side. Let’s not reinvent the wheel here. Bush on the left side, Kiune on the RS, some mixture of Endsley, Barton, and Wilmes for the other front row spot, DS as needed, Wilson in a 5-1.

I'm just saying it would be "a" reason, not that it would necessarily be a "good" one. Yes, in college ball, you generally want your "big bopper" at L1. Still, blunting opponents' left-side attack, funneling it to left-back, can yield positive results. Our inability to do that in 2022 was a primary weakness. Might moving Hunt to OPP be an option? It looks like Fletcher was likely at OPP (#3 in blocks/set) at South Carolina, while hitting .266.

I dunno why Bush is being pushed opposite. She needs to be on the left for Washington, and I've never waivered from that. For me the first question would be can she pass ( ie handle the pressure of being served 14 or 15 times per game ) and if so the second question would be can she hit decent range with some heat after she passes. If serving her deep disrupts her rhythm and then she just hits a 3/4 speed shot in play, that's not going to be entirely effective.

Honestly in the big picture, Canada needs Bush to develop into a 6 rotation OH. They are hurting for left-sides that can pass!

Let’s not reinvent the wheel here. Bush on the left side, Kiune on the RS, some mixture of Endsley, Barton, and Wilmes for the other front row spot, DS as needed, Wilson in a 5-1. Wilson in a 5-1 would be ideal. Challenge this year will be similar to last year…putting together a lineup of hitters that can pass AND get kills. If Bush is able to be a 3rd person in a passing line-up for 3 rotations, that would help. She hasn’t played that role so far. The 2-person passing rotations last year were tough. We have good, but not great, passers on this team. The MB spots should go to the best blockers to help the defense, with any offensive as bonus. I would expect to see UW play with the 6-2 again this year some to find the best way to get the most talent on the floor, unfortunately.

Based on what I saw last year and the spring games, we absolutely need to prioritize starting players who pass better. Id like to see start: OH: Bush, Tulino (assuming she can pass better than Barton and Endsley, if not ill give edge to Barton, but neither of those two pass great) OPP: Wilmes or Fletcher depending on who can block better and be more productive. Never seen Fletcher play. MB: Wessels, Hunt (if shes not better than Hani it will be another abyssmal year from the middles, but based on footage she is) S: Wilson L: Bays, Heard first choice as DS, but Huard has a pretty good serve so would like to see her as a serving sub

gohuskies.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule/2024Just noticed the noncon being added: @montana State 8/30 Montana State 8/31 Middle Tennessee at Colorado 9/6 Fresno State 9/7 Georgia 9/8 Colorado @home 9/13 Washington State 9/15 UC Davis @osu 9/17 Oregon State @long Beach 9/19 Long Beach 9/20 Pepperdine How do we think Washington will do? I'd like to see them go at least 8-2. I think Oregon State, Pepperdine, and Colorado present the most challenges. Possibly Georgia too. I like to see them competing against 3 former PAC teams.

I think we go 9-1, would be thrilled with 10-0.

Possibly Georgia? I feel like they’re the hardest one here. Correct me if I’m wrong but they added some pretty quality pins via the portal? And they have one of the best middles in the nation..

I said possibly, just because I don't know them that well, though know they are typically solid. All those 4 teams I mentioned have weapons. We will see.

Imo Georgia is by far the toughest team on this schedule. Fischer is Fischer Kemp, Lovett and mounke (spelling may be wrong) are high quality transfers. Georgia is gonna be fighting for a top 4 spot easily in the SEC imo.

I'm curious to see what their serve/pass and backcourt defense looks like. I also agree that they stand a solid chance to finish top 4 in the SEC, but that's less because I think Georgia will be just that good next year and more because the SEC is very likely weaker next year than it was last year.

Some recent good recruits and great use of the transfer portal. I think they're the toughest opponent on this non-con schedule by far.
