I wonder if Washington is looking at Kambree Rodriguez and/or Mele Corral-Blagojevich. What made you say that? Both players already have connections with the staff. It looks like UW was interested in Mele in high school, and Kambree & one of your assistant are following each other, which probs goes back to when he was at Utah State.

Have to admit that I'm getting a little antsy when I see the moves some other teams are making, in particular ASU.
I'm hoping that, in quiet fashion behind the scenes, UW is plotting similar moves to strengthen the roster in '24. The first B1G season for Washington is going to be tough. But if there aren't some good additions made in the off-season, it could be a very rough year for UW VB fans.

Our recruiting has been awful. We will have 4 open scholarships for 2025 and we only have 1* commit. That's not acceptable. 2025: OH: Bush RS-SR, Barton JR OPP: Wilmes RS-SR MB: Hani RS-JR, Wessels JR, Hunt SO S: Wilson RS-SR, Haury SO L: Huard RS-SO, Griffin SRIf Huard wins a scholie, that'll leave 3.

Griffin was honored on senior night this year, right? She shouldn’t be coming back.

Looks like there is room to add players in 2024 as well. Assuming all players return (minus Griffin) ...
OH/RS: Endsley (Sr); Bush (RS-Jr); Wilmes (RS-Jr); Barton (So) MB: Hani (RS-So); Wessels (So); Hunt (Fr) S: Wilson (RS-Jr); Haury (Jr) L/DS: Bays (Sr); Huard (RS-Fr)
That's a team of 11 players total. Even if Huard is on scholarship that means room for 1 transfer, and I would guess they probably have room for 2. At this point seems like we will be looking at the Spring transfer portal window to fill these spots?? Maybe smart to let the dust settle from this portal window and see who will be graduating or looking to transfer for a better option to see playing time after spring practices.
Anyone have an idea if Huard could be an upgraded option for the passing rotation to play backrow for one of the hitters?

I think to be competitive in 2024, Washington needs an experienced DS/L or 6 rotation OH that can pass. In addition, an experienced middle blocker will be really helpful.

Do you think Wessels and Wilmes could carry the team in 2024? Wilmes can pass, but hasn't shown she has the strength to perform consistently in the front row. I like Wessels, and Hunt, at MB, but I'm not convinced that Hani has the athleticism to compete effectively. I'm half hoping, from watching her in the hitting line, that Huard can become the next "Brooke" (Nuneviller) - but we'd still need a Libero.

From the PNW v-ball desert thread... I thought earlier in last season that Wilmes, with Bush out, was the key. That turned out to be correct, as I think will be the case this upcoming season. While Wilmes struggled offensively, she did show some flashes. UW's primary problem is that they have not replaced Hoffman, who was their Swiss Army knife at L2. With Bush, Endsley, and Barton carrying the offensive load, Wilmes just needs to improve her offensive efficiency. More importantly, UW NEEDS to have Wilmes in SR for six rotations. If they can pass, they can distribute the ball to the outsides and set the middles. If they can't, they CAN'T. This is what I think they need to do: r OH1: Endsley -> DS: Huard OH2: Wilmes (6ro) MB1: Wessels -> MB2: Hunt (Sub: Hani) OPP1: Bush -> S2: Wilson S1: Haury -> OPP2: Barton L: Bays SR: Bay & Wilmes, + Huard (3ro) I'm hoping that Bush can pick up where she left off pre-injury; Endsley can at least play on a par with the end of last season; Wilmes, Barton, and Wessels can all step up their games; and Hunt can upgrade the middle play. Huard, who warmed up in the hitters line last season, could potentially rotate to the front row to further buttress the passing. So, if this all works out, they just need to bring in an extra OH/OPP and DS, and a third Setter. The goal should be to finish in the top half of the Big Ten and make it back into the Tourney, then use that to leverage future recruiting. Agreed that UW is better if Wilmes can improve her ability to do ALL her skills at a higher level over longer periods of time. I'm hopeful she makes a jump in the off season. Last year really was the first time she was expected to play all 6 rotations. Why the 6-2?

That needs to improve. Definitely need a couple transfers for depth. 1 or 2 injuries to these players and the team could really be hindered.
