Olympic beach Volleyball Rankings, updated March 9.
Men's Top 25, by Top 9 finishes.
Thought it a good idea to preempt the misleading article we usually find under this title, and replace it with actually useful information. Perhaps they will just copy/paste this post into the VBM website.
I used the FIVB World Ranking list of Top 8, fivb.12ndr.at/olympic-ranking/men as well at Across the Pond's Top 9 listing here fivb.12ndr.at/olympic-ranking/men
I compiled the below rank order manually, doing some of the sums in my head, so there are undoubtedly some errors, feel free to correct.
To account for teams that do not have 9 finishes, I made the assumption that the worst they will finish in playing tournaments 8 and 9, or 9, as needed, is to add points that match their worst finish of the season.
The team to watch, a team closing quickly, is the Dutch team of Boermans/De Groot.
Men's Rankings, Top 9 finishes / Lowest finish among Top 9
1. NOR, Mol / Sorum, 9860, 960
2. SWE, Åhman / Hellvig, 9260, 760
3. CZE, Perusic / Schweiner, 8380 (7780 + 600)
-- note: (have played only 8, assumes 9th finish will equal lowest counting)
4. USA1, Benesh / Partain, 7500, (6900 + 600)
-- note: (have played only 8, assumes 9th finish will equal lowest counting)
5. GER, Ehlers / Wickler, 7440, 600
6. BRA1, George / Andre, 7120, 600
11. BRA2, Evandro / Arthur, 6540, 600
12. ITA2, Ranghieri / Carambula, 6460, 400
-- note: (have played only 7, assumes 8th and 9th finishes will equal lowest counting)
xx. BRA3, Pedro / Guto, 5620, 340
19. AUT2, Seidl / Pristauz, 5280, 400
xx. BRA4, Renato / Vitor Felipe, 5240, 400
xx. USA4, Schalk / Bourne, 5100, 460
20. POL2, Kantor / Zdybak, 4980, 460
24. UKR, Popov / Reznik, 4440, (4100 + 340)
-- note: (have played only 8, assumes 9th finish will equal lowest counting)
25. FRA, Krou / Gauthier-Rat, 4420,160
Since the World Champion team is included in this list, the last qualifier on Points will be the team 18th in the rankings rather than 17th.

Brunner/Crabb seem to be in a solid position against everyone except for USA3 and USA4. It would not be out of the question for USA3 to get hot and surpass Brunner/Crabb if USA2 go cold. USA3 has about eight tournaments in which to do so, including in Nuvila, Philippines in two weeks.
Assuming Brunner/Crabb retain USA2 position, then --
Even if teams #16, 17, 18 should pass USA2, and USA2 moves to #18, in order to slip to #19 and miss the qualifying points/ranking cutoff, one of the two teams currently with 4840 points, or NOR2 with 4720, would have to pass them. That's a tall order, around 1000 points, but you never know if USA2, USA3 and USA4 all go cold, and one of those three teams with 4840 or 4720 gets hot, it could happen.
It's looking then more and more like Schacter/Dearing might not have to face a USA2 team in the NORCECA Olympic zone qualifying tournament next June. But they'd still have to face Cuba.
I started noticing Hodges last year, and thought, well, now there's a new player who is going places. And it's worked out that way. I like his aggressive approach to attack and serve, fun to watch. Glad he and Schubert are now AUS1 and within the top 18.
