Wow - Grote MVP for Minnesota
Tough end for USU - they looked like the team that went 17-1 in conference in that third set.
Curious if they can make that tournament again next year, as Capllonch and Stall were both honored on senior day. Those two were really the heart and soul of the team.

Good fight by USU in the 3rd. Feel bad for them that they couldn’t close that one.

VB Blue Bloods: Longstanding: Penn State Stanford Nebraska UCLA Hawaii USC Texas Newer: Wisconsin Won a title, but still not a blue blood Washington (??, or are they) Kentucky Won a title(s) but lost blue blood status Pacific Long Beach State Discuss. All from memory in five minutes from someone who isn't a VB historian. Hawaii and UCLA have both only made one Final Four in the last 20 years. I'd demote them (esp. if you're not counting Washington). USC is also on the verge of losing status - no Final Fours since 2011.

Sure they haven't made a final 4 in long time but the programs have outstanding and long history of excellence and success that includes multiple conference championships, national championships as well as players who have represented our great nation on the Olympic stage. They're old girls but they've been here a long time. That's volleyball royalty right there. Also, Hawaii's following is massive and on par with Nebraska and Wisconsin and matches the longevity of Nebraska's. Side note: I'm pretty sure UCLA and Hawaii have made the final 4 at least 2x a piece within the last 20 years

I'll definitely take a sweep. Back by popular demand, things I saw!
Game Stuffs * Was it because the Gophers were serving tough, or because Utah State isn't a strong passing team? Either way, the serve was ON today * The pressure was so strong, in fact, that Utah State changed liberos after the second set. I don't know the last time I've seen something like that happen * Someone get Lydia a chiropractor, she needs it after carrying the team today * It was great to see the Gophers come back when it looked like they were going to do Gopher things and let the game get away from them
Non Game Stuffs (That may interest more than me) * Someone didn't do their job in the starting lineups, #12 was identified as "Sydney Schnicels" when the lineups were posted on the broadcast * What the heck was up with those necklaces? The head coach had some black/white one, but the other coaches had some all black necklaces * While we didn't see him, everyone knew the "Here we go Gophers" guy made the trip to Omaha, you could hear him loud and clear * There was a commercial I saw a few times where one person asked "remember the big mistake last year?", the other person said "Bangs?" and then there's me immediatly saying "Yeah bangs were a big mistake" before seeing the rest of the commercial (The bangs were a big mistake). I don't even remember what it was selling, just that apparently, bangs are a big mistake.

I do think it's possible to lose blue blood status, but it usually takes a long time and isn't uniform for ever program to face it. It's not JUST winning titles and making final fours and generally being a strong program that makes a blue blood, though certainly all those things matter. There's also things like iconography, history, historical role in developing and expanding the game, etc.

UCLA and Hawaii are shadows of their former times but they are still consistently good to great. Though, UCLA not making the tournament is a bit alarming but that has a lot of do with their conference. Iconography, history and historical role of growing the game, Hawaii has that in spades. Like Nebraska, volleyball is a state treasure.
