It'll be interesting to see! Someone (was it inpaign?) said she might be good enough to compete with Barnes for libero, even. But yes, some kind of DS/L.

Sounds like a great pickup, now on to a pin hitter to compliment Terry.

I've got Christina added to our roster in the OP now. Her name is linked to her EIU roster page.

If you haven't gotten the opportunity to watch Christy play, you should certainly watch an old EIU game. Phenomenal player, I've hoped for a couple years now she'd make the transfer over to Champaign. A significant upgrade from a defensive standpoint -- the perfect backrow player we were looking for!

For those that didn't make it to the EIU scrimmage match, here were some of my favorite comments on this board about her:
pointillinois - "EIU bro dug some bombs from Raina"
bops68 - "God could we use Easterns libero also"
Hahaha. She doesn't get much attention being in a smaller conference, but she's more than capable of exceeding at this level. Excited to see where this goes!

She was amazing in the scrimmage hence my comment!! I agree with inpaign based on that one game she will push for starting at libero.

Putting money on it that she steals the Libero jersey from Barnes.

Putting money on it that she steals the Libero jersey from Barnes. If she played the entire year like she did against us in the scrimmage she definitely SHOULD take the libero jersey.

This is huge, could change the way we play! Does Martinez-Mundos make the recruitment of a pin hitter who wants to play 6 rotations more difficult?

This is huge, could change the way we play! Does Martinez-Mundos make the recruitment of a pin hitter who wants to play 6 rotations more difficult? This is a great question. On one hand, our back row is practically set for next season and I feel good about where we are at. We absolutely need another transfer (or two) that can help us up front. You bring up a good point. If we were to recruit a 6 rotation pin to transfer here, that would probably push Barry out of the rotation, as only one DS will be needed. That could become a sticky situation for sure...

I see it as a positive. Shoring up the back row will allow us to recruit a transfer from a much larger pool of outside hitters. Getting a six rotation hitter becomes a luxury and not a necessity.

I like Lily and want to see her on the court but I see no problem with having competition in the gym. If folks are going to complain about Illinois being too kumbaya, I don't want to hear anyone then say we shouldn't have people fighting for playing time. I'm not directing this at you, inpaign- I'm just sending it into the conversation.

I agree an improved back row is more important than another 6 rotation player. If Vernon does not transfer to Illinois because we upgraded our back row play, it is a price I would be willing to pay if I was Tamas. I also agree making people work for playing time is important. Would I like both? Sure, but if I have to choose I’ll take the improved back row play. I also like the idea we are getting a proven player from a mid-major rather than someone from a major conference who wasn’t able to see the court. In the words of that great philosopher Mick Jagger, you can’t always get what you want.

Totally agree with you! I do think in today's era of the transfer portal, coaches have to balance the struggles that come with playing transfers over recruited players. Some younger (and inexperienced!) players can have a tendency to feel entitled to playing time. Putting it on the record that I DO NOT believe we have any of those players, and in this situation I'm sure Barry would love the competition. Just a general thought
