I re-watched some of the Miami match from September this week, and they've made some changes in their lineup/rotation that have them playing better (of course, so has Wisconsin). Mayne most notably in Yaidaliz Rosado taking over at libero. If the name sounds familiar. she is the sister of Dali (?) Rosado, libero at Minnesota eight-ten years ago Three things I noted tonight: - Heredia-Colon's top spin jump serve gave Miami the big lead early in the first two sets that they used to hold off UNI comebacks. I'll have to look at the boxscore from September to see how did serving us then. - As the match got later they went more and more to D-balls from their opposite, Grace Lopez. Badgers need to be ready for that. - Near the end of the 4th set, I thought one of their middles, Janice Leao, was limping a bit, favoring her left foot/ankle, etc. But the match ended before I could ready tell if it was hampering her any. Something to keep an eye on. I watched Miami/UNI in person last night. You're right that their middle got injured. She had to leave the game and was taken to the locker room but came back and played a couple of more rotations towards the end of 4th. Visibly in pain and hobbling. She needed help walking off the court at the end of the game. Grace Lopez was quite impressive. I think she had 30 kills and hit .500. Miami serve receive wasn't that impressive to me. Their setter is good. If we serve tough and our block shows up, I think we win in 3. Are they running a 5-1 now? They were in a 6-2 last game.

When she came out really limping they tried to massage it and get it feeling better and she went back in for a point or two and came right back out in obvious distress. Once they unwrapped the foot and ankle she couldn’t even walk to the other bench during the set changeover and needed 2 people to help her. Same happened after the match was over. With how high the tape went I wonder if she’s dealing with a high ankle sprain. Hate seeing competitors hurting and missing time. Especially at this point in the season.

Dang, the on demand replay of UNI-Miami has all the choppy audio and interruptions of what was shown on TV. Was going to try to watch that, but that’s a hard no to suffering through all that again. It was bad enough watching live at Big Ten Pub last night.

When Wisconsin played Miami in September, Heredia-Colon went to the line to serve six times (including Miami's first serve of the match): - three first ball service errors - two first ball sideouts by UW - one time one point won on serve before UW got the sideout
And I looked at Miami's last match prior to the tournament. a five set loss to Boston College: - one first ball service error - four first ball sideouts by BC - one service run of six points for the BC sideout.
For the year, she has 26 aces and 58 service errors.
So pretty much the typical high-risk high-reward topspin jump serve. Some nights she's on, some (most?) nights she isn't. Last night she was on.

In last night's match, Lopez had one backrow kill in the first set, and one backrow attack error in the second set. And then...
Three backrow kills in the third, and five backrow kills in the fourth, with no backrow errors.
That's from the boxscore, I didn't look at video to see which were D-balls and which (if any) were middle attacks. For the sound of things, I wouldn't be able to anyway :-) (I may have to look just to see how bad it was!)

(technically spoiler in title) I thought spoiler rules were suspended during the post-season. My bad! I just don't get how to obey the no spoilers rule in the post season. It's pointless. I think you did good.

And she had already missed most of the season with an unrelated injury. If that lower-leg is a no-go tonight (which from what on-site folks have said, that is highly likely) the Canes are in trouble. At best they'd have their best MB basically on one leg. Not great for blocking footwork. I think one of the OH's is also nursing injury.

I hope it’s okay that I put the team names in the thread title now. 🙄 I can’t believe Wisconsin won.

But generally, Miami has done a lot of lineup juggling this year. As a team, they have now played 110 sets in 29 matches, and only two players - setter Savanah Vach, and left Heredia-Colon - have played as many as 100 of the sets. Another four have played 90-plus sets. Of the three middles on the floor last night, Casiano has played in 76 sets in 24 matches, the injured Leao 66 sets in 18 matches, and her replacement last night Ashley Carr 38 sets in 14 matches. a fourth middle, Cianna Tejada, has played in 54 sets in 15 matches.

You don't know if limping/wrapping/being helped by teammates is because of injury? Those sets played during the season were all injury. Leao had an apparent core injury most of the season, replaced by Tejada (an OH btw). Casiano injured her lower leg two-thirds into the season and was replaced by Carr. The only lineup juggling not due to injury was rotating through liberos. Rosado took the jersey in toward end of season and has kept it through now.

You don't know if limping/wrapping/being helped by teammates is because of injury? He's just looking at sets played. Of course he doesn't know if the variation is all due to injury. You can just add information without the needless snark.
