Gotcha. So “pure” meaning only used for setting, while others are more well rounded in the game. Well not "only used for setting" because Carlini's defense is ridiculously high level and she's a great blocker too. I think in terms of someone who's more focused on setting her hitters and making them great versus someone who CAN set but not at a great level so they have other "flashier" things they do. Or those "setters" who spend more time attacking on 2 than setting up their hitters to be successful. Either because they can't or they love racking up stats. For me, a great example of "pure setters" in the game right now are probably Emma Grome (though she needs to work on her defense) and Hannah Pukis. Their focus is majority on getting the ball to their hitters in a way that makes them look great, not herself. This is how I interpret it. Others might disagree.

I wouldn’t say that, from what I understand of the terminology. “Pure” setters can definitely be well-rounded players (look at Lauren Carlini’s defensive abilities), but it’s more that their top skill is setting and that in itself makes a huge mark on the game. I’d look at players like Madison Lilley, Jordyn Poulter, Lauren Carlini, and Samantha Selliger-Swenson as examples of what a “pure” setter is.

What would be considered a “pure setter?” Never heard that term used before so just curious. The best replacement word might be "natural". The term originally was used to describe a setter whose delivery was visually graceful and seamless in almost all aspects. So--he or she's a natural, a pure setter.

David Addisson was such a fun character. "Miss DiPesto. Looking a little pail today, aren't we?"

Rutherford from UK is best player in portal. Was afraid this may happen being her covid year. Circumstances are always out of hands when it comes to this extra covid year. Wish her the best as a UK fan. She made a commitment to play at UK for the next four years and did that. Word around Lexington is that she is going play closer to home. Schools such as Baylor, Texas, Houston, BYU, A&M should be giving her a call asap.. She would do really well at texas, however I think bringing her in may not bode well for morale for the players still there I totally get wanting better players on your roster, I totally do. But texas is litterred with top ten talent, talent who does not want to sit Maybe she'll go to Hawaii. I'd love to see her go average 6 kills a set at like Rice.

I think she’ll end up wherever she thinks she has a good shot at playing 6-rotations. That’s a real goal of hers.

Pukis is a hell of a setter and I don’t think “pure” fits well there. She was super aggressive against Wisconsin. I think she is one of the top on the country offensive wise. When Babic played 5-1 at UNC she was aggressive almost the same. I never liked that we went to 6-2 this season. That’s probably why she is leaving us. Send some setters this way

Rutherford and Ndiaye will head to Texas with Carlson and then they’ll run a 6-2. Got it.
