Um no, he isn't. I know of multiple players who 100% for a fact were given 3.5 scholarships recently. The whole point is technically starting them off scholarship. Yes, I know the same. However, if you sign a student athlete to get a scholarship in semester/year one at a P5, it is the four-year deal as long they remain in good standing. However, many coaches do "short money". Don't pay first semester and then start January or even offer a 1/3 where the scholarship goes into effect year two. This has been quite common during the Covid extra year. I know some top players that paid for their first term or even first year to go where they wanted. Often there are incoming academic scholarships and some NIL that can cover quite a bit of that. It is pretty easy to see on signing date. Does the school post the "signing" of that player on that date or is it just on the student athlete Instagram? Schools post "walk-ons" once admitted (which is what that athlete is to start with), and fees have been paid. This is all good info. We know the four-year guaranteed scholarship thing is on the books. My question is, since we keep hearing about players we thought were on scholarship who suddenly aren't (like Akana at Nebraska), why haven't we seen any complaints from any of these SAs? Especially a player whose scholarship was reportedly pulled, shouldn't there be cases of these players filing charges against the school that pulls the scholarship? Maybe this has happened and I haven't seen it discussed. |

Nothing was “pulled”. Akana started at Nebraska as a walk-on.
The difference of opinion comes when a walk-on athlete feels they’ve earned an available scholarship through their play thus far and the coaches feel the scholarship would be best used for someone else. There are understandable feelings on both sides. The athlete has worked hard and given a lot to the team. The coach is required to look at the big picture and choose what the team needs most for success the next year.

We really don't know that she's going anywhere, but maybe the allure of a Championship? The Badgers are bringing back Smrek, Robinson, Booth, Crawford, Franklin, Orzol, GG et al. |
