there are 360 ncaa d1 women's basketball programs... but some of these transfers are d2/d3/naia/etc. players. NAIA and JUCO can transfer but they are not in the portal. The portal is an NCAA system. 1004 was probably just the D1 transfers but for more context... WBB Teams D1 - 360 D2 - 297 D3 - 429 Currently 1880 players in the portal, about 1700 of them since spring semester started and almost 1600 since March 1. Keep in mind that this is the last year of COVID super-seniors (aside from anyone who gets a medical hardship for a 6th year). So I’m more curious what things will look like next year.

While it is the last year of COVID super seniors, it is not the last year of that extra year of eligiblity's impact on rosters. Increase in redshirts and retention of eligibility by younger athletes due to the bottleneck on rosters means we are still likely to see the impacts on transfers for the foreseeable future.

So that makes ~1.7 transfers per team.

That’s a lot of kids looking for a new home. And the tournament is still going. Gonna be interesting. I did notice that primes daughter is in the portal from Colorado? Prime staying???

"Sheffield would like to add two more players to that mix after the transfer portal reopens for two weeks on May 1:
“We absolutely will be bringing in at least one more person through the portal,” Sheffield said. “What that is, we don’t know. We have one scholarship and we absolutely are hoping to use that. That is the plan. Ideally, we would like two attackers, whether that’s a left and a right or a left and a middle. That’s one of the advantages of our big kids being capable of playing multiple positions.”

Holland’s great, but Wisconsin’s backlogged with 4th/5th year middles. A pure outside and an OH/RS would be ideal. What major programs are still looking for Middles? I know Minnesota and Kentucky had recent pickups, but they could both be good options for her.

They have the quality but it’s young tbh. Oregon lost both their middles as well right? Or Florida?

She’s good on the slide, good blocker. Feel like I remember she had a pretty strong serve, too.
Sounds like the perfect replacement for O’Neal👀
