Looks like she's saying, "no, no, keep away from me, Rus Socoli!"

Just got off watching the match on Fox College Sports West on tape delay. Was impressed by Oregon's spirit and energy despite their 17 straight conference loss in a row. Wish the announcers take Announcing 101. Like giving the score, identifying players by name instead of "the Oregon or California player," and telling basic things like who's serving, who made the kill, who made the block, and who made the dig. The two announcers just yakked and yakked, not describing what's going on the floor. Even on the screen, the station showed the scores every five minutes instead of after each score. Very frustrating. We in Hawaii are spoiled by the excellent television and radio coverage. For example, Scott Robb, the Wahine radio announcer, can speak a mile a minute in describing the action clearly and accuratelyl.

That was Cara Capuano with Cathy Nelson (former Oregon head coach) as the analyst.
Karch Kiraly was originally scheduled to work with Capuano. Don't know exactly what happened.

I watched Game 2 and part of Game 3 at lunch today. I was not impressed with either team. Maybe that 1 1/2 game stretch was not representative, but I saw a LOT of dinks (most of which dropped to the floor on both sides), very few hard shots with basically no digs of any hard shots, lots of serving errors and all-around poor volleyball.
Maybe I have gotten spoiled watching the Huskies, but Cal is going to have to really step it up from what I saw to have a chance on Friday. Oregon, on the other hand, ... [shaking head and walking away]

[shaking head and walking away] And there lies the problem. Judging a young team by a small sample of 1-1/2 games (on the first day of a road trip) is hardly representative. It wasn't their best effort. I don't know if they will put their best effort this Friday, but if they do they should be able to at least keep a few games close. I don't think Cal wins against a clearly superior UW team, but I think their best effort would make it interesting. I didn't think Cal would beat a #2 USC team last season, but they swept them. The great thing about the Pac-10 is that even the bottom-dwellers sometimes come up big. I would have thought that a UW sweep of Cal in Berkeley would have happened last season with Jillian Davis out, but it didn't. Morgan Beck will have to step up. Angie Pressey had been rock solid all season although she'll need her best effort. I know Candace Lee gets the press, but Jillian Davis is one of the top back row players in the Pac-10. Her numbers are a bit down now but the rest of the team is steppin it up on defense.

IF Carter can spread around the offense to Beck, Pressey, Brown, and Powers and those hitters hit AWAY from Candace Lee... this might be a good match.
I have faith in Cal, I'm making one of Cal's home games this weekend and I hope they pull out a win for me. ;D
