Stanford looked like the better team throughout the night. But their defense looked asleep for quite a bit of the match. Great effort by UH. I really like Rehr as a coach. Houston has potential, especially with their move to the Big 12 and how open that conference is going to be with Texas gone. I don't think they're going anywhere. Houston is losing 70% of their kills, and 2/3 of their serve receive. It'll be interesting to see how they refill. One word: PORTAL

That's really the concern for the Card, their defense disappear at times. Rehr made some really nice adjustments after the pounding UH took in set one. He started probing for weaknesses with tips and short serves and some of it worked. He also took advantage of Francis' inability to close the block and had his setter go faster to the pins.

Out of system needs work, also not sure why she gets tentative at times. Just spam her on the bic and I’ll be happy lol Kipp needs that killer instinct and just go for broke at times! She also needs to be set a little more.

Please watch the BYU/ASU replay! Was a great match even tho Shields could've gone to her a ton more down the stretch of Sets 2 and 3. Just watched the replay. Levinska was nearly unstoppable on the attack and had a great night from the service line too. It's going to come down to execution versus ASU. Sloppy Stanford will not beat ASU. Elite Stanford can sweep 3-0. What is going to be? This is what drives me crazy…catch fire for a whole match…jeez. I do think Kipp needs to be set more.

I don’t think Stanford’s elitist game is any more elite than ASU’s tbh.

She also needs to be set a little more. THIS One of Stanford's issues last night were OOS sets to Kipp, several by Oglivie that were either too high, off the net, too far inside, and various combinations thereof. Kipp only hit about .270, certainly not bad, but I think it would have been more like .400 if the Card would have cleaned up this aspect of their game.

They aren't good defensively and need to stay in system. ASU's entire strategy is to get teams OOS with intense serving. I honestly don't think someone can watch the UH-Stanford match and the ASU-BYU match and truly think the teams are that far apart. Stanford is middling, ASU keeps getting better.

Stanford is middling, ASU keeps getting better. Don’t know if this quite answers the question, but again you might be right (though “middling” is kinda harsh.). If you go on data (or my laymen’s understanding at least), seems like if both teams play their best, Stanford wins. If you go on vibes, ASU looks good and definitely demolished them last time. Anyway, can maybe migrate this part of the conversation to the Stanford regional thread?

Stanford always has the best talent on the floor but they lack drive, focus and emotion most years. I’m waiting for a Stanford team to have a sense of killer instinct… one day?!
