Does anyone really think that SS's dream is to sit for a year? Her dream? No. But… 5 years of paid education, including tutors. University stipend. NIL. The ability to observe, learn, and train before being dumped into the deep end. She can accomplish everything that she wants academically in four years. There’s nothing special she can do with an extra year of paid school at the U. Players want to play. Not sit. From what I’ve read, she’d be swimming just fine in the deep end from day 1. She knows what’s what (far better than we fans). She sees what goes on in the practice gym day in and out. If she sees that she’s the best setter, in terms of actual setting skill and Cook doesn’t play her … that’s not a great message sent.

Sadly though, these days you have to consider another angle with this: would we be saving that year of eligibility for us … or for the team she’d transfer to? Screw that. Play her this year. Why would you think she would transfer? I’m only talking about the extra 5th year, that she would only gain by redshirting. She’d easily have enough credits to graduate with a bachelor’s by then and thus be able to grad transfer out at any time, even outside the portal window. Why give her that ability? My choice would be to play her each of the next four years.

Hey folks! Check out the "Wisconsin Badgers 2024" thread--the presale tickets for the Showcase on 9/1 and 9/2 in Milwaukee (with Texas, Stanford, WI and MN) just went on sale for WI season ticket holders and someone posted their promo code--and it appear to work for anyone! 🤷🏻♀️The tickets aren't cheap --$90 (plus fees)for floor seats an $60 (plus fees) for first tier seats, and you need to buy a separate ticket for each of the dates (with two matches on each day). FWIW, I emailed with the Gopher ticket folk. He said they're going to be sending out a link for our (MN) pre-sale access. I just sent a reply back that reminded him that our access starts in under 22 hours. A bit of advance notice would be handy. He also said that the Gopher bench, and our pass-list area, will be in section 118.

...She knows what’s what (far better than we fans). ... Might I gently suggest that you read your comment (which I agree with) over and over and over again, before declaring what the Gopher program should/must do? Whatever decision is made, I am sure that it will be made with input from all the people involved/affected.

Don't you think a free master degree would be nice to have just to counter your argument? You made it sound like Cook will just do it without the player's inputs. Ohh unless you talked about the other Cook lol. Also you think that if she redshirts her first year, she will transfer out in her 5th year to play somewhere else when it will be technically her final year as a Gopher? That is a very bizarre take.

I’m pretty sure by the time she sits a year, plays for three, and then decides to transfer, a program like Minnesota would have quite easily recruited a new world class setter. Some of you seem very concerned with Keegan’s roster management, to which I say why?

I can’t even fathom the people assuming she’s going to dip out after 4 years if she either redshirts or doesn’t start this year. My understanding is the Gopher-Swenson relationship runs deep. But to your point, I agree. The Gophers will look to recruit a setter in 2026 I presume (Ellery DeBoer rings a bell.) He's not stupid. Although, sometimes his in-game management makes me scratch my head, he knows how to build a roster.

I think it’s natural for some fans to wonder about roster management. Not saying they’re right. But I can understand it.

Why do people think Keegan has never coached or put a roster together before coming to Minnesota?
Pretty sure he made it farther in the tournament than Hugh did just a few short years ago.

And let’s not forget Cook somehow managed to get Phoebe to come out of retirement and play a 5th year knowing we needed help at the middle position. This whole conversation is just dumb. If Stella doesn’t start or if she redshirts this year, she’s more than likely going to transfer in a few years and play a year elsewhere, because it’s dumb for her to stay in MN and get no degree for one year and just take random classes. There is no way Keegan is going to recruit another setter to take her place when this said transfer takes place in 4 years because he’s incompetent and can’t manage a roster. Can people understand how far-fetched this whole scenario is?

Of course players want to play, but not everyone gets what they want coming is as a freshman trying to beat out a 5th year starter. I think SS is mature enough to realize that things are different now that Mel is taking a 5th year and I hope she will be optimistic about having a veteran setter to learn from and not sulk away when she doesn't get her way (which I don't think will happen.) The Swensons have been very pro-Gophers for a long time now and I think the loyalty runs deep.
I think Cook has shown us his lineup for the year, with maybe another enhancement coming from the portal. A competitive gym will only make everyone better, including Stella.

Five opposites when 3 of them can also play OH? You are a bit desperate to prove your point. Also go ask and talk to Coach Skinner at Kentucky about this roster management too if you will.
