I don’t think any of the discussion about SS redshirting or not has anything to do with if Cook is capable of recruiting another solid setter in the next four years.
Nor does it have anything to do with Cook’s roster management style or capability, or if transfers are normal in a coaching change.
These all seem like fairly off the wall tangents to if SS redshirts or not.
Regardless of the potential benefits (academic or otherwise) of redshirting, does anyone here really think she isn’t going to set a single foot on the court, for even a single point of a single set of a single match??
Because NCAA rules for all sports except football dictate that as soon as she does, *poof* redshirt is gone.
I don’t see any realistic world where that’s a thing for the whole year.
She may end up not playing in very many total points or sets this year, but that still means no redshirt. And then from next year on she’s the presumptive starter.

It is *because* of those “as soon as she sets a single foot on the court” rules for red-shirting that I believe it’s more reasonable that she red-shirts, rather than playing for just a few points or sets or matches. *THAT* would be (imho) a waste of a year of eligibility.

JT, keep it up and keep telling them how ridiculous they sound here in case they don't know yet.

The only way what you’re saying here works is if she doesn’t dress for matches, the entire year. You really see her in sweats not even dressed for the entire year? I just don’t think that’s real life. If she dresses, she’ll get out there, bank on it.

Because at one point we had 1 middle and five opposites? lol That's an exaggeration and incomplete statement. Five opposites when 3 of them can also play OH? You are a bit desperate to prove your point. Also go ask and talk to Coach Skinner at Kentucky about this roster management too if you will. Oh relax, it was a joke.

And there’s literally no reason to insult Keegan.

My point: as far as any of us knows, there’s an equal likelihood that SS starts over Mel and still transfers in 3 years for a change of scenery, as there is the chance she’d red-shirt and transfer in four, as there is the possibility she plans to stay at Minnesota for 4 or 5 years regardless of what happens during this one season overlap. I think it’s a little silly to base what we think a college freshman might do in an scenario based on what we would do in that same scenario.

She's miles ahead of Elise and Chloe. imo

What’s she gonna do - kneecap Mel, Elise, and Chloe? Any of those players WISH they were as iconic as this duo.

If the plan that the staff and Stella agree to is for her to redshirt, they won’t change that plan 10 weeks in (well, probably not). (Of course, if this hypothetical knee-capping version of Stella were to exist, I’m not sure I’d *want* her on the team.)

Can somebody please set up a separate Stella thread? I have a feeling that this topic isn't going to die anytime soon.

Any of those players WISH they were as iconic as this duo. Agreed. They are still *instantly* recognizable three decades after the event.

What’s she gonna do - kneecap Mel I could see Cook playing her a full set in one of the early matches, to get her feet wet. I don’t see why it needs to be more complicated than that?
