Has Acevedo always followed Gopher volleyball or is that new? It is new. I saw that also. After Averie Hernandez she might be in the next 2 best portal entries this spring. Looks like she is following a few other schools too, like Wisc, ASU and San Diego. Probably looking for a landing spot. Unproven at this point and probably the 4th or 5th best pin at Oregon? Don't know if she fits in MN but will be interesting. When the 25's arrive she could have just changed her color of jersey but not the playing time. Portal is tricky for younger players in top programs.

It’s very possible that the follow is because Thibault transferred here. I don’t know that MN makes sense for either party.

Now that I look, it is suspicious that her follows include MN, Wisc, Pepp, USD and ASU. It is always hard for highly touted recruits to go to big programs and not get a sniff of pt and then think that they should go to another program that is equal or better than the first .... and expect different results ... especially in the day and age of the portal bringing the best girls off other programs on top of them again! At some point, they need to play to build their portfolio. I would say USD is the best fit for Acevedo from a playing time perspective with no close second. But, I bet she doesn't go there hoping that a bigger and more storied program will take her before realizing she will be a backup again.

But then I would agree with you about ASU chances - compared to the others she is following. Cyr is back and Cromartie is healthy from what I hear. Miller was the starting OH at WV and JJ got her also. Then based on what a lot of coaches have said, this Presley girl is all athlete and high upside. Now that I type I am changing my mind! Presley has more althetic ability than Acevedo had coming out of Oregon/Idaho hs. ASU is probably deeper at OH than Wisc is, now!

Full disclosure, Badger fan here. I wanted to swing by The Gopher Thread to see if there is any Acevedo news. In terms of potential for her to play sooner rather than later, The Badgers have a rare opportunity for a young player as explained by Sheffield in an interview with the local volleyball beat writer April, 2024: “We absolutely will be bringing in at least one more person through the portal,” Sheffield said. “What that is, we don’t know. We have one scholarship and we absolutely are hoping to use that. That is the plan. Ideally, we would like two attackers, whether that’s a left and a right or a left and a middle. That’s one of the advantages of our big kids being capable of playing multiple positions.”
As it is, Wisconsin will have just three outsides — Franklin, Orzol [final year for them] and Trinity Shadd-Ceres [true freshman].
"I feel like we’re in as good a position with those three as anyone in the country,” Sheffield said. “But I’d feel a whole lot better if it was more than just three. We’ve had years where we’ve had five. And it’s an incredible opportunity because two of those are graduating after this year and one of those was our libero. So is it possible to break into the lineup this year? Yeah. Does it give them an advantage for the year after to break into the lineup? Yeah. That’s a position we would like to add a little bit more."
Are the Gophers actively looking for another OH? In any case, it will be interesting to see where she ends up

As an Oregon fan I'm pretty bummed to see her go. I don't think anyone in the Oregon camp that really knows what they are talking about would tell you that she wasn't going to play this year. She was very likely going to see a fair amount or even a significant amount of play time. In my opinion she would have challenged for the OH2 spot throughout the season. To say she was the 4th or 5th best pin just isn't accurate at all. I know the coaching staff was very high on her upside and felt that she was going to be a very good collegiate player as she developed. Whatever her reasons were for deciding to transfer I'm sure she's well aware of programs that will be challenging to get on the floor and programs that will have better odds. If she chooses a top program that will be tough to get on the floor then I think it's reasonable to assume play time wasn't really her reason for transferring considering she would have played at Oregon this year. I wish her the best of luck finding a better fit. She's a good player and I have no doubt she's being pursued by quality programs.

I’m confused how this whole thread has turned into an Acevedo thread with other teams fans when it hasn’t been much of a topic of conversation by MN fans. With that being said, all I know is she is following them. I don’t know if it’s anything more than that. I also don’t know if MN is looking for an OH. Team chemistry is good right now as the roster is.

Kinda doubt Minnesota makes any further portal moves, but if we do, I'll be sure to discuss it on the Wisconsin thread.

Seems like Lydia did injure herself according to posts. Hopefully she’s still able to enjoy the rest of the Europe tour or will get back into it! Glad to see everyone enjoying themselves! This team chemistry overall looks great!

I guess she didn't just choose to follow the Gophers for the fun of it?
