Video is horrible compared to what we have now, but 2004 Regional Final, MN vs (t)OSU. Was that the year they had "regionals" in Minneapolis and Green Bay?

Looking at who's got open dates Sept 12-15, who do you think the 3rd team could be for the Diet Coke Classic? Possible options (23 final rank):
Kansas (18) Florida State (28) NC State (42) UCF (40) Washington State (8) DePaul (120) South Florida (101) Florida Atlantic 154)

Paula ❤️ she signed my frisbee at a game once and gave me a hug when I told her I was a libero bc of her. Core mem My roommate was on the 2002 team; they were getting ready to go play somewhere, so I offered her a ride to the bus loading area in the at Williams. We picked Paula up to give her a ride also. I had just been in an accident with my car, so I had a loaner from Central Avenue Auto Body. Except the loaner was a rusted out 1986 sedan with an ashtray so full of cigarette butts I was afraid to touch them for fear of making a mess. Trying to explain to Paula that this wasn’t my car, thankfully she understood. We got to the loading area and the trunk wouldn’t open. Lisa Axel had to pound on the trunk a few times and finally it flew open. Luckily it latched again. Man what an embarrassingly comical day that was! I think I’ve told this story here before but fun to think about it again. 😂

Edit: wrong Lisa, Reinhardt did coach her though ![:))](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cheesy.png)

The 3rd team for the Diet Coke Classic, to play MN and Auburn seems to be narrowing down to either Kansas or Florida State, unless there is a decent program from smaller conference that I'm not seeing. Coastal Carolina? Drake? North Dakota State? South Alabama?
Any guesses?

A huge shoutout to our former gopher Airi from team Japan who just beat Brazil for the first time in many years in the VNL semi final. She played so so well. So proud of her. Time to go get that Gold model, Airi!

I know it's not as if this hasn't been discussed in this thread already, but do people has strong feelings on whether or not Swenson will end up taking over the starting spot from Mel this fall? I think there's no question that she could "challenge" for the position, but where are gopher fans on that real likelihood?
I tend to think that based on last year's substitution patterns (or lack thereof), that Melani will start from day one through the tournament. I'm a strong proponent about favoring consistent setting tempo and placement over other non-setting attributes, but it's of course a combination and can be a nebulous concept for making the final decision. Of course actual stats can be helpful if both are given chances and the team performs at a clearly higher level with one or the other in there.
Full disclosure, this is coming from someone who would not have been devastated if Shaff had decided not to use her fifth year of eligibility.

She has too much experience and her defense on and off the net is great. I think Stella is amazing and will be amazing throughout her career, but I just think it will be next year before we truly see her running the show.

That’s a bummer then, because I don’t see why this team will do any better than last year?
Maybe we should be happy to just make the top 26, at a regional final hosted elsewhere. But I feel like that’s beneath the expectations that Hugh had built up to and not where I want to settle for.
