I hope that the scare of losing to Houston will light a fire under Stanford that was much too close for comfort. They really eased up after the first two sets and then tried to get back into it too late in the 4th.
The fifth was them asserting their dominance. The defense needs to be better. I did like that early Miner got Francis and Vicini a lot of balls. Also Rubin played out of her mind in the fifth as did Kipp after her second block it was a real momentum swing.
I was keeping a close eye on BYU and ASU. Levinska is amazing and I do think ASU has a chance but I think the Card prevails here. The Sunday match was a case of early morning road trip. I don’t think the Card will be taking the Sundevils lightly they know what Levinska and Cyr are capable of.

BYU's back court D was the opposite of fire. Stanford's wasn't exactly lighting anything up either Stanford's defense (.192 opponent hitting percentage) has been suspect all season. Better than the last two seasons, but that's not saying much. Even this match against Houston supports that. Houston doesn't have a great offense (.246 team hitting percentage), but they still hit .252 against Stanford and .303 (50-13-122) in the first four sets. Arizona State has a significantly better offense (.289 going into the tournament--9th in the country) than Houston.
