I'm usually not the one who cares about this, but I believe this is the one transition year where (a) the NCAA is NOT sending a standardized court, and (b) there is no requirement for Teraflex (that IS a requirement starting in 2024).
Stanford's court looks so much cheaper and worse than the other three regionals. Not great for the ESPN broadcast.

I'm sure, since it'll be a requirement to host regionals. I was just talking about next weekend.

Stanford in 5 unless their defense shows face. I also haven't seen ASU yet so I have no idea what they're giving outside of many poster recommendations here.

Stanford is it what it is. A very good offensive team and a good, but not great, defensive team. When the serves are in and tough, it works, or they wouldn't have the record they do against a pretty good schedule. They're averaging 2 aces/set, 2.7 blocks/set, and they have some great individual defensive pieces (I'd argue Oglivie, Rubin, Miner, and Kipp are all very good, and even Vicini is pretty good). And yet, teams hit ~.200 against them. It's a riddle wrapped in a Twinkie.
Also, ASU is playing with house money and Stanford sometimes looks like they're just happy to be there. I read the ESPN Miner article, so I know that's not true, but (sorry for the cliche) it is the vibe. This match reminds me a bit of the 2019 regional semis against Utah, except this team doesn't seem to have someone like Hentz who absolutely hates losing more than they love winning (sorry, another cliche). Miner can only do so much.

I wonder how Texas hypothetically handles that? Texas is going to have some struggles hosting a regional next year the same way they did this year - losing O’Neal, Bergmark, Phillips, and Barnes - but if they do host that will force them to purchase Teraflex after all. I have no idea how that would be handled, other than it would definitely be handled, regardless of the cost.

I can think of only two times and that was against WSU and Oregon at away games this season. But also right when I think we’re about to get reverse swept or even swept (at Louisville) the Card start dominating in a fifth set

After saying that, I wanted to make sure I had it correct... Regionals: New for the 2023 season the playing surface for the regional competition will be the surface that the host institution uses. Sport Court will not be provided by the NCAA. For the 2024 season, those interested in hosting a regional round of competition will be required to have or have access to a Taraflex.ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/championships/sports/volleyball/d1/women/2023-24D1WVB_BidChecklist.pdfSo Texas (and Wisconsin) can rent a Teraflex surface if they don't already have one. Although, didn't Wisconsin have one for their match against Florida at the Kohl Center?

But also right when I think we’re about to get reverse swept or even swept (at Louisville) the Card start dominating in a fifth set I wonder if it comes from Hambly. Laid back coach = laid back team? And, tbh, maybe this is the healthier approach. Care, but not so much that if you lose, you're devastated. Care, but not as much as the crazy fans do. Have balance. Which when you go to Stanford for free and also maybe come from La Jolla or Newport Beach or Brentwood, is understandable. Anyway, maybe in talking about Stanford's defense, we should also mention ASU's. Statistically, at least in conference (where the unbalanced schedules arguably gave ASU an easier one than Stanford), teams hit .205 to Stanford's .183. Stanford's defense may be sus, but ASU is susser.

It’s what led me to pick USD over them. It’s just not always all there. Wondering if it will be the same energy thi weekend.
