ASU really gave us the business whew thank god we were able to get a grip and pull through. I think this match will serve us well on Saturday and (hopefully) beyond I had no idea you were a Cardinal fan! Yes!! I’ve been a Stanford fan longer than I’ve been a fan of any other team. Ever since that magical run in 2016

Finally home. My oh my. NCAA, can't you plan just a little better? Geez
I notice a lot of Hawaii fans on this thread. Then I realize that they are the only ones awake at this hour! And..not much other volleyball going on...so it makes sense.
We somehow got a win. Kipp dominated the first set, and contributed steadily after. Rubin was a beast throughout.
Not the best match for everyone else. Not sure how much we can attribute that to the late hour. As others stated, all players contributed in one way or another. Total team effort to grit this one out.
I'd say that Miner for the most part was her usual great self. In the 4th set she had some uncharacteristic average moments where she made some bad decisions and missed her locations; but overall a very good match per always.
Even Oglivie, who made several great plays and played an overall pretty good match, had several moments throughout the match where she just had the switch turned off, and didn't go after a dig she normally makes, or missed a pass she normally dimes.
Middles: oh boy. Francis had some very timely kills, especially late. Vicini, 2 kills for the entire match. Their blocking was decent; but overall not a great showing from the middles.
I've seen this from Stanford in the past--not necessarily this year or even this exact group of players. Not playing the best vb, but moving on somehow to the next round. I'm really feeling like this is lining up for a stellar performance on Saturday. Everything and everyone is going to finally come together and explode with a great match.
Alright. I'm yawning so hard that my jaw is cramping. Time for sleep. Adios!

The match started at 7:51 pm Hawaii time and then last until around to a little after 10 pm, Hawaii fans had to show out. Also we had to cheer for a home product, Oglivie.

Couple observations that haven't been talked about as much on here
1. Stanford defense from middle back was very solid. Baird and Rubin picked up just about everything they could
2. Kami definitely struggled especially in the first half of the match. Setting her middles far too low and imo not being aggressive enough to dump a little more often. Not a terrible match but lots of room for improvement
Good luck on Saturday Card!

Two quick thoughts as my friend and I watched from the endzone. 1) Stanford seemed pretty tight to start; several serves into the net and the connection between Miner and the middles was pretty bad. 2) Baird did not have a good hitting night but she was being relentlessly targeted by a really good serving team. And she mostly held up and made up for her poor attacking with a really good defensive match.
Anyway, tough win from a team that needed to show some grit. Alright, on to Texas.

this band is remarkably better than what they put out on the football field a few weeks ago The small pep band for indoor sports is much more select and much better musically than the football band.

Is hambly maxing this all star lineup? I expect more. Stanford too loaded for some of these performances I feel. But excellent win.

I suspect the late start jitters got to both teams, seeing how messy the first set was particularly for Stanford

I even feel like Shroll has added a new level at ASU. I wish there was some ASU superfan on VolleyTalk despite all the rough years that program has had. This would be so special. did i die? but i’m probably one of the few ASU fans on this board

This would be so special. did i die? but i’m probably one of the few ASU fans on this board I kind of meant like a longstanding presence on VolleyTalk (unless you were here under another name). I know you've been a fan, but, superfan is also kind of something else. I wouldn't even consider myself a USC superfan.

i am so proud of this team and what the coaching staff has done with the program this year. to go from multiple losing seasons to making the sweet 16, it has been a ride these past couple of years. sad to see it end, but i am cautiously looking forward to the future.
Marta, i’m so glad you got to show everyone how special you are and what you are really capable of! good luck going pro ✈️.
probably not the right thread for this sentiment but w/e.

Yeah, but the Tennessee band, wow! Musically they were strong and their rendition of Rocky Top is now etched in my brain.

The Stanford band sounded so so so much better than the Texas band. During first match, many times I nearly went back to my car to get ear plugs. Texas band just makes loud noise. Stanford band makes nice music. When they started playing I realized what a difference, and how much I appreciate them.

Did Annabelle already leave the team? Annabelle Smith medically retired early in the season and hasn't been on the bench. She did participate in Senior Night.
