btw, is anyone else kinda impressed how Spectrum has that "Non-Stop Travel" graphic at the bottom-right corner of the court? You almost cannot tell that it's just superimposed for TV lol

Congrats to Tayli Ikenaga for winning BWC defensive player of the week. 60 digs for the weekend, that's amazing. Big West website says "The Honolulu product had 14 digs in the third set alone to became the first UH player to record 30-plus digs in a match since 2018, finishing one shy of the UH record in the rally-scoring era. "
She actually set a record for the Rally-25 era. The record that she tied was 33 digs by Melissa Villaroman in 2002 vs Fresno State, but that was during the Rally-30 era. Tita Akiu broke that record in her final match in 2018 against Baylor in the NCAA Tournament with 34

Hawaii gotta invest in some banners to hang in the rafters. Watching mainland schools, they have banners for everything, even though none are for NCAA championships. Hawaii could have so many banners up there too. Nebraska has banners for their players in the Olympics, Hawaii should have those too since we have more Olympians in volleyball than they do. Nebraska has their All-Americans around the arena too, which is really nice. I think one of the problems is that the Stan is multi-purpose and we would have to have different banners for the various sports. Nebraska has a dedicated volleyball arena. That said we definitely need more! Like every Big West Championship at least.

There has been talk of that but UH didn’t want cluttering and also wants to save spaces for players/teams who accomplished some special. What if UH was to give banner to every AA in every arena sports then it starts to take up all the rooms? UH’s men volleyball title banner will be lost in all the banners. UH wants banner to represent something special and not just because that player or team gets an AA award. We got Dave Shoji, who is a Hall of Fame coach and has won national titles. We have Judy Mosley, who was and is still the best basketball player we ever had. Then we have the two men’s volleyball titles and the women’s titles. Our women volleyball team went to 30 straight NCAA post season. The women VB team themselves would clutter up the arena with WAC/BW volleyball championship banners.

Tita akiu IMO is the best libero hawaii has had in the 2000s. That girl was a machine and truly deserved AA

Anyone know if the volleyball team has retired numbers, I know the baseball team does. I believe that both volleyball teams have not retired any numbers.

I agree with this 299%. I think Hawaii has enough accomplishment to brag about. Why being so humble? Who's in charge of marketing?

Re. Judy Mosley
Not having followed UH women's basketball but familiar with the history and some names, I used to think Judy Mosley was some White girl based on the name alone. This belief lasted for over 20 years until sometime in the 2010s, I randomly watched some youtube video of Mosley and...shocker!!!!...wait a minute...she's Black!?!?!?!

Judy Mosely...Now there's a name from the very distant past. I recall her and Tee Williams hanging out at the dorms. Living on campus was a dream come true for UH sports fans...I recall seeing athletes like Suzanne Eagye, Reggie Cross, Chris Gaines, Garret Gabriel, Chris Roscoe, Walter Briggs. I also remember seeing Allen, Poppinga and Lockwood around campus as well. Great memories.

SMU will probably make the top 25 rankings after their sweep over Baylor today. Good thing we played them early in the season.

I do like the like plaques that are around the circle walkway of the Stan but I really do think there is space to put up banners somewhere. Maybe in the outside hallways of the arena. We should be showing off our accolades.
