Mason ... if I'm remembering correctly, she was tried out briefly on the right, but was a more natural attacker on the left, and that's where she ended up playing most. In 2006, Mason played left. Due to injuries, Kaufman was activated from an intended redshirt season to have someone/anyone play opposite. But she was really a middle that happened to be in the rotation at opposite, and she ran the slide almost exclusively. Kaufman…we should recruit world class high jumpers and coach them how to slide and serve. lol Kaufman had some hang time on her slides, that was cool.

From what I remember, Hartong took a TON of swings from Sophomore to Senior year. Sophomore year she was a middle. She was I think third on the team in attempts but it wasn’t that much Her last two years? Yes 2012 with croson playing it was even ish but croson was out a lot of the year 2013 she took a lot but Nikki came in and took some of the load off But still a lot of swings Thanks for clearing that up. Funny how memories/reality can be so different! I just recall feeling like Shoji was riding Hartong's shoulder way too much, but she was delivering.

Dave's description of Emily's personality is spot on. I've known Em since her freshman year and she's very soft spoken and humble, not near the rah'rah type. It's in the family, as her parents, Bill and Julie are. Did you move your season seats from B section? We haven’t seen you at the games but Jake said you moved. Jake? he knows. Gave up my seat two years ago to Chanteal's close friend of her family.

Agreed. I think Nalani Yamash*ta would have been the best libero. She passed so easily and made those digs look like a piece of cake. She’d definitely be my pick for libero on the all-time team. I agree about Nalani Yama%*$#a, but how can you leave off Akiu? IMO she would be the DS/backup libero. maile golden and jamie paet from the late 80s/early 90s ... would have been great libero candidates, if the position existed at that time ...

Hey, you forgot about the BEST Wahine Middle Dietre Collins. How can you forget about her. I forgot about her because I was in college on the mainland during the time that she played but yea, she should be on the list also... agree with deitre ... karrie trieschman ... also great middle in Hawaii's long line of great ones ... cheri boyer ... if we want a tall blocking setter. i still remember a graphic from the broadcast back in the day showing that during one season, boyer had all of her starting attackers hitting above .300 ... a great stat! (was also a big jen carey fan ...) i'm only adding to the list. it's so hard to choose ... lol

A two-time AA and she was probably the tallest setter we've ever had. She was good too! We've had soooo many good players over the years!

She crossed my mind too just because if I was putting together a team for today, I would look for someone tall. Cincerova was one of the all time greats and she was really hard to live up to, but Boyer did it.

Diana Jessie, I forgot about her. She was on the last NC team. How about Sarah Mason? Wasn't she an oppo her senior year? Mason ... if I'm remembering correctly, she was tried out briefly on the right, but was a more natural attacker on the left, and that's where she ended up playing most. In 2006, Mason played left. Speaking of Mason, nice to see a 2nd generation UH athlete in her son, Isreal Solomon, freshman football player. Damn, I’m getting old. I remember watching Jackie Matias’s dad blast homers for the baseball team back in the day. Was too young to watch the grandpa.

Ah, that’s why I haven’t seen you around and have seen the Satele’s there. Jake is a die hard. He goes to all the games.

If we had a starting lineup like: Bown, Mags, Willoughby, Hartong, Taylor, Kamanao, with Longo or Danielson as L, Robyn as HC, Mitchem, Aneli and Anjelica as backups...wonder where we would be in today's rankings? Oh well, that's me dreaming. It's fun to think of an "All-Time UH Wahine" roster and starting line-up. My "All-Time UH Wahine" roster: Setters: RAM, Kanoe, Norene, Nikki Middles: Angelica Ljungqvist, Heather Bown, Veronica Lima, Amber Igiede, Dietre Collins Libs/DS: Ali Longo, Liz Ka'aihue, Savanah Kahakai, Nalani Yama%*$#a Hitters: Kim Willoughby, Kanani Danielson, Nikki Taylor, Tee Williams, Lily Kahumoku, Emily Hartong. My "All-Time UH Wahine" starting team: Setter: RAM (Kanoe b/up) Middles: Ljungqvist & Bown (Lima as backup) Lib/DS: Ali Longo & Liz Ka'aihue Hitters: Kim Willoughby & Tee Williams (Kanani first off the bench) Oppo: Nikki Taylor What a team that would be! I would add Jamie Houston and Victoria Prince ;-)

Has there been another Hawai'i libero to earn regional honors after Ashley Watanabe (HM AVCA All-West Region in 2005)?

Was 1996 the last year the Wahine made it to the NCAA final? They beat a lot of great teams that year Texas, Nebraska, Florida 2x, UCLA and finished 35-3 that year dang! Yes. Made the semifinals in 2000, 2002, 2003, and the last was 2009.

Saw a lot of Houston on streaming and Prince live (eeek!) in a match you all want to forget, but which made driving to Green Bay in December worth it for me! (Green Bay is meh in general, and meh and cold in December).
