Robyn body language Was at game last night. Robyn's body language was different. She is usually more active talking to players and giving advice. Last night she was quite passive during game action and in time outs. Then she did not do post game interview. I am wondering whether she has second thoughts about the team, the season or continuing with her job. Speculation, sure, but I never had doubts that Robyn was fully committed to the team. Now I have my doubts. I don't doubt her commitment, but most posters have noticed a significant shift in in-game mannerisms this year. Real time coaching seems less this year when you might think this young group needs it even more.

Glad they won last night but I had to leave after they lost the 3rd set. Couldn't take it anymore. It's so hard/disappointing to see our team struggle like that (at home no less!) against a perennial bottom dweller of the weak Big West. Not what you want to see out of your team heading into the final stretch of BW play. I think this team more than any other in Wahine Vball history is a head scratcher: they can look really, really good one night then just struggle against mediocre teams the next...

W/L Records of Hawaii's non-conference opponents: SMU | 15-6 (7-3, ACC) | Went 1-1 last week (lost to Louisville, defeated ND) | San Diego | 12-7 (7-2, WCC) | Went 2-0 last week (defeated St. Mary's, Pacific) | Pepperdine* | 11-8* (8-1, WCC) | Went 2-0 last week (defeated San Francisco, Santa Clara) | Texas St* | 13-8* (7-3, Sun Belt) | Went 2-0 last week (defeated U of Louisiana-Monroe, 2x) | Oregon St | 6-13 (4-4, WCC) | Went 1-1 last week (lost to LMU in 5 sets, defeated St. Mary's) | UNLV | 10-11 (3-7, MWC) | Lost to San Diego St & Boise St last week. On a 4-match losing streak. | Texas | 12-4 (7-1, SEC) | Lost only match last week to Texas A&M in 5. | Baylor | 13-6 (5-3, Big 12) | Went 2-0 last week (very good wins against TCU and Houston). | Total W/L: | 116-79 | Win % of Non-Conf Opponents: 59.49% |
*Hawaii played these teams 2x during the non-conference. notwithstanding texas' loss last week, most of the non-conference opponents are doing their part to help prop up hawaii's RPI. oregon st was the only real blemish, and now unlv (on its 4-match losing skid) is a concern too ... but if unlv can hover around .500, then it won't be too bad. (hawaii's loss to unlv though is a different story when the committee looks at the nitty-gritty of hawaii's record.)

(hawaii's loss to unlv though is a different story when the committee looks at the nitty-gritty of hawaii's record.) Cubi, you are the best. I was just wondering if someone could put together Hawaii's non-conference opponents W-L record. I was curious how Hawaii went down almost a dozen points in the RPI. Conversely, shocked UC Davis dropped about a dozen. Hawaii's non-conference RPI is really helping them. Hawaii also doesn't play all the poor BWC teams twice and does play all the top BWC teams twice, so that helps. There were a couple seasons where Hawaii looked down and out, but got at larges based off their RPI. So hard to say what may come, but I do think Hawaii could make up more ground if they can take care of business. Goal is the BWC championship, but an RPI under below 38 would be nice too...

I don't doubt her commitment, but most posters have noticed a significant shift in in-game mannerisms this year. Real time coaching seems less this year when you might think this young group needs it even more. Coaching up is what happens before or after matches. During, all they can do is tactical. It's a long season and sometimes it's on the team not the staff to hold themselves accountable. Again, I view it as some maturity finally in the staff. The answer can't be constant grinding on players every free moment of a match. The players have to learn to hold themselves accountable for their mistakes and in match adjustments. I think the coaches really do need to change their approach during timeouts. It's the constant badgering of hand placement for blocking and use of the blockers hand to tool shots. I have never seen a staff that badger their players more than Robyn and Nick. Maybe the coaches should discuss what they see, where to attack next or set up the next play. It's always about technique and hands here or there. When a QB miss a pass, the QB coach don't go up to him and demonstrate proper throwing form. If a basketball player misses a free throw, you don't see the coach get into the players face and correct his shooting form. Way too much repetitive reminders IMHO. It's drilled into the players brain already. Additional reminders won't make them better. It could make them overly aggressive and cause more net violations.

Yup as others have said--I forget which famous coach it was--but he was asked why his sideline demeanor was always so calm and he never appeared to do much coaching during matches--his answer was the same "the best coaches prepare their teams before matches". They shouldn't to do much in-game coaching because their players are prepared.
It should never be a good thing if the coach is riding the players during the game--that the staff is doing it less is a good sign that they are maturing. There are so many things you just can't fix during a game.
