My national player is coming back for her 5th and is going to get NPOY while leading Texas to their 3rd straight championship I'm genuinely curious why a player who has already been in college for 4 years and could jump right to the pros WOULD return for a 5th year...especially on the heels of her THIRD national championship and the championship MVP award. What is really the motivation to continue playing NCAA Vball? Perhaps getting a Master’s degree that will help set her up in the future once she’s done with volleyball from a great educational program?

How many girls have 3 national championships? Does anyone have 4? Maybe a Penn State girl from their run?

I mean the AVCA did stop publishing coaches T25 polls for a reason… Isn’t that because someone on here doxxed one of the coaches for not putting Nebraska number 1 though? 😂 Did you see their polls?

They've been posting the individual coach votes for a while. For that to change, you would need a significant reason to overcome inertia.

Also several players have commented how the support systems are much better in NCAAs - the sport scientists, nutritionists, trainers, PTs etc. and that going Pro means you're on your own for a lot of that. Staying for another year is only going to make her better/stronger and in a position to start with a top pro team

Ignorant question: why is player of the year voted on before the tournament outcome - seems they get it wrong frequently and shouldn’t a huge part of the determination be how the player performed at the most important time and biggest moment? I mean compared to Skinner Franklin seems so diminished by contrast. Is it just so there’s an event at the banquet?

What is really the motivation to continue playing NCAA Vball? NIL money at Texas is more than she'd get paid going pro. It would depend on how much she gets paid as a pro. It wouldn’t take much to exceed that, but I don’t know the pay rates. How much does Eggleston get paid in Turkey? Is it $30k USD? $100k? If it’s the former, she’s taking a pay cut. If it’s the latter, she’s getting a pay increase.

What is really the motivation to continue playing NCAA Vball? I have always found that people make big decisions emotionally, and then rationalize the decision they’ve already made. It’s why being a salesperson - which is what I was for the most part - is a viable way to make a living wage. Her sister is a pro, so she has the inside scoop from a volleyball perspective. Her Dad was a long time NBA pro, so she has access to his insight. Asjia O’Neal decided to return, so she can see how that went. It’s not like Skinner is suddenly deciding to stay in school. Every interview I’ve seen her do - which must be at least a dozen - when the topic comes up she’s always been very insistent she’s coming back for another year. Even when she wasn’t asked a direct question, if the interviewer kind of assumed she was leaving she’d be quick to correct them. So it’s not an idle decision. She’s been adamant about this course for quite some time. Every fan wants to feel like their program is special, often to the point of obnoxiousness. Certainly Texas fans - and I include myself here - can be among the worst. But regardless of whether it’s true or not, it’s certainly part of a compelling sales pitch when players like O’Neal and Skinner don’t want to leave for other opportunities. At the same time there are players who do go, so it’s not a sentiment universally held. Brionne Butler had an extra year she could have stayed for but instead chose to pursue a professional career in Indonesia the next season of all places. I obviously don’t know all the reasons. But you can tell she genuinely enjoys being at Texas. She gave a heartfelt ugly cry while she was being interviewed on the court right after the championship match about how much she loves it at Texas. I’m sure whatever goes into those emotions has a lot more to do with her decision than NIL dollars. Although I will say she’d be my #1 pick as a product representative if I was looking for someone in women’s volleyball. She sounds like a professional spokesperson in most of her interviews already.

I feel these girls could be making more money and staying closer home. The biggest disadvantage is the experience at a higher level to build their profile for the national team.
