Would not have brought arrogance into it at all. And the opening statement did not congratulate W on a good season. Thinking the point I made is just being missed. It’s more cutting to say what he did in a situation LIKE THIS than to not say anything at all about W until asked. That’s all. Sorry but I enjoyed the statement because I thought it was nasty 😆 It definitely wasn’t nasty - he’s not like that at all. Are you familiar with a psychological phenomenon known as projection? Pretty sure you know I don’t and, like JE, you didn’t need to say it 🤣🤣😀😀

Just heard the opening statement of JE’s post game …. I absolutely LOVE it when a coach congratulates the losing team in a situation LIKE THIS 🤣. I get it if Wisconsin actually showed up. Just don’t mention W until someone directly asks you about it. If JE has a poor relationship with Sheff then kudos for the hot poker to the ribs. If not then put on a sock puppet for the pressers and let him say ridiculous things 😆🤣😂 You’re reaching.

Sometimes I wonder why we place so much importance on trivial things that work us up.

As much as I’m not a Texas fan, you can’t help but respect the fight they brought. Wisconsin looked like they have pretty much all season; big names and spectacular athletes who have not figured out how to play with each other. Disjointed is the word that comes to mind. From here on out I don’t care who wins Yeah...not sure this is a good take but thanks for trying.

There’s a ton of people that casually tune into volleyball during these FF matches; not having much (if any) appreciation for the teams, much less the sport beyond what they remember from high school gym glass.
And all of those viewers finished watching and thought, “gosh, Wisconsin isn’t very good. I wonder how they got to the FF?”
This pleases me.

The tournament is an incredibly definitive thing, but sometimes not the definitive thing people want it to be. The tournament (obviously) definitively determines the tournament champion, which is an amazing and much-sought-after achievement. That's it. That's what it's for; that's what it does. The trophies say "tournament champion" not "best overall team 2023." The tournament doesn't definitively determine which team is "best overall" - though on many occasions the "best overall" and tournament champion have been the same. People seem to get so stressed or frustrated by this dichotomy, especially if they feel their team is better overall than the tournament champion. But that's an unavoidable situation in light of a single elimination format - it's bound to happen intermittently.
I think possibly hardcore fans get frustrated if they think their team is "better overall" but doesn't win the tournament because casual fans and observers really don't care (just throwing theories out there). The tournament winner is what gets attention and the great seasons of non-winning teams don't get the same attention. Maybe on a hardcore fan site like VT, but not many other places.
Are you WI fans for real? WI just came unglued, got spanked, and sent home with red bottoms. Now you are saying your 2021 National Championship is NOT a National Championship, but just a Tournament Championship ... LMFAO No, I'm not a Wisconsin fan at all. Nor am I saying anything about Wisconsin's 2021 Championship.

Sheffield handled a real tough moment extremely well. He gave credit to Texas players at every turn. He admitted his team didn’t play its best, but he consistently gave Texas credit for that, even while being directly invited to blame it on his team not playing better.
Not to throw Busboom-Kelly under the bus, but I feel like after the national championship she really laid in on thick about how much below her expectations the Louisville team played on the national championship. It’s sich a crushing moment for the players anyway, I feel like Sheffield’s approach does a better job of not putting the whole onus of losing on his team.
He’s also such a convicted and compelling advocate of the game. I feel like he did a great job of getting on the outside of his emotions of the moment to promote the championship on ABC on Sunday even though his team will not be involved, as well as give a few plugs for next year’s tournament at FiServ Arena with Minnesota, Stanford, and Texas.
I also like how he downplayed the need to win a national championship to call it a successful season, which is a whack-a-do mentality as far as I’m concerned.
He may not have won the match, but in my opinion he won the press conference. Not that it’s a competition. It’s just my way of acknowledging I feel like he was a stand up guy in that very tough moment.
