Link to post match pressers. Once the Wisconsin coach said something to the effect of we don’t have the expectation of winning a national championship match and they don’t even really talk about it I stopped watching. You can feel the pain of a tooth extraction getting them to acknowledge they got walloped. Wisconsin coach couldn’t physically make his brain go to that 3rd set when the question was about a series of points - “oh you mean the 3rd set…” 😆 It’s kind of painful to watch honestly because it feels like it all was so unexpected and not according to plans and expectations- like kids joy riding and a car crash the next - and no one can describe what happened. It’s just awful. The looks of disappointment and bewilderment displaced by lame attempts to justify not being on the same level as an opponent you’re known to be superior to. It’s so sad and crushing. I think I’ll watch it again.

I don't want to be in this profession if that's what it is and that's what our players are feeling. We don't talk about that. We talk about trying to play our best, trying to get better, be the best we can be, max out all those types of things. And hopefully along the way you're with people that you enjoy being around. There's a lot to celebrate, there's a lot to be proud of. It's a bittersweet moment because I know they thoroughly enjoyed playing with each other and for each other, and the fan base, and the University. But, you know, that's sports and they have nothing to hang their heads about. It was a great year and we wish we had a few more days with them, but that's the way it goes."

Ok. I have to go to sleep. I have a meeting at 7AM that could determine a student's entire future. Uggh. Rough - give the kid a break, coloring inside the lines at age 5 can be tough. It was a graduate student and my job for the last year and a half is to protect him from everyone else in the program who would do harm. But it went ok in the end (wipes sweat off my brow). People are sane again. The match apparently didn't go as well from my perspective, but I couldn't watch the end. I was hopeful when I went to sleep. Oh well.

Sheffield handled a real tough moment extremely well. He gave credit to Texas players at every turn. He admitted his team didn’t play its best, but he consistently gave Texas credit for that, even while being directly invited to blame it on his team not playing better. Not to throw Busboom-Kelly under the bus, but I feel like after the national championship she really laid in on thick about how much below her expectations the Louisville team played on the national championship. It’s sich a crushing moment for the players anyway, I feel like Sheffield’s approach does a better job of not putting the whole onus of losing on his team. He’s also such a convicted and compelling advocate of the game. I feel like he did a great job of getting on the outside of his emotions of the moment to promote the championship on ABC on Sunday even though his team will not be involved, as well as give a few plugs for next year’s tournament at FiServ Arena with Minnesota, Stanford, and Texas. I also like how he downplayed the need to win a national championship to call it a successful season, which is a whack-a-do mentality as far as I’m concerned. He may not have won the match, but in my opinion he won the press conference. Not that it’s a competition. It’s just my way of acknowledging I feel like he was a stand up guy in that very tough moment. I think Sheffield is a class act generally, but especially in these moments. He likes winning matches and championships of course, but he's more interested in teaching how to win at life. For anyone dedicated to a life of growth and challenge, a large part of that is managing disappointment.

How much of Texas’s play and serving was the reason Louisville and Wisconsin looked like JV teams? I would venture to say a lot.

I didnt watch last night cause I went out but checked the box score when I got home and audibly gasped
congrats texas fans, at the time I thought y'all were the worst team going in to the elite 8 and I thought Wisconsin was taking the whole thing. A texas Nebraska final is just needed I love it

So... my take on that match.
I think Texas was very very good last night. The person I was most impressed with was Halter who put on a Lauren Barnes style performance. The badgers have played some very good defensive teams this year and fought through that kind of defense. I don't think I've seen them as brittle in the face of good defensive once this year.
I think a lot of that was that the badgers oddly never got their BR defense truly on track. They just seemed jumpy. When Devyn forced Sheff to use a challenge so early in the match on a clear no-touch call, that told me that the team was over-anxious right from the get go for some reason.
There was a moment toward the end of the 1st and through much of the second when I thought it was finding it's feet, but then the brutal serving by Skinner seemed to break the BR confidence again in the third, and it didn't come back. The badgers don't pass well enough to win without excellent floor defense and ball control to transition and it just wasn't there last night.

If you go back and read posts in the page 70-79 window and compare to the posts in pages 80-89 (that’s a guess on the page windows but it’s around there) the sentiment on GG is fascinating. The early pages everyone was saying to give her the Libero jersey and she was feasting. Then a pretty stark 180 calling for her to be benched and get out of SR.
Texas played out of their minds, especially Emma. Madi didn’t play as well as she has the last couple matches but finished strong. As a few of us Texas posters said before the match, Texas was never going to get blown out. With Madi and Asjia they will compete in every match.
Also, someone please find a clip of the Emily Ehman comments on Wisco crushing Texas and link it.

Texas was the better team previously just being undersold by their online supporters in polls and such.

They were at a venue where they were going to have more fan support then Wisconsin. They were the better team PERIOD before the 'unexpected' win and after.
