Just want to hop in here and say that Louisville losing to a very strong Penn State team in Rec Hall is not the worst loss from a top team we’ve seen this week. Not even close. If Louisville’s only loss at the moment is to freaking Penn State? I think we’ll be okay. I think many of us remember the loss to NC State and getting pushed to five at Wake Forest last year. Just like we remember sweeping Penn State and Pitt at home. We know the highs and lows that come with this team. That being said, the level of play we saw out on that court wasn’t great. I’m hoping a loss will help the team learn and grow, and maybe take some of the pressure off. I think expectations are high, especially with Louisville hosting the championships this year. But I don’t think a loss to a star-studded team on their home turf means the sky is falling. I still think this is a top 5 caliber team and we’ve seen that anyone at the top of the rankings is not safe. Regroup and take it one game at a time. Go Cards! . I think most people believed psu would be good this year with the roster they have. The question was alway will they be elite. Time will tell on that but psu is one of the hardest places in the nation to go in and get a win as visiting team. Nebraska has been the only team that I’ve seen with any kind of sucesss there. Any adv another team may have rec hall normally neutralizes. I don’t think the win shocked anyone. It was the way they won it that suprised people. I think both teams will be there at end. If penn state wants to be taken serious though they have to follow that up with a win at Kentucky tommorrow. If they can do that I don’t see the potential for a loss until they play at Pitt before conference play starts. I want to see how they handle themselves on road against good team. I know they got that win at Tennessee but I want to see it again. Show me consistency. Cards fans should want to root for psu now just like if it went other way psu would root for cards for strength of schedule and making the loss look like a very good one

Day 2 in northern Kentucky. Found a delightful coffee shop and....second hand store I guess you'd call it? (The Roost). Then a quaint diner for lunch. (Granny's Latonia Diner).
Let's see if the 4th set for Louisville yesterday signalled a wake up from whatever fugue state they fell into at Penn State.
I'm looking for some aggression against Mizzou. We'll see if it happens.

I think it's time to start correcting people.
We're not running a 6-2.
We're running a 6-3.

Anyone else notice that our front row defense is so back, idk what Dan Meske did but weve been blocking really good so far this season compared to last season. Weve had double digit blocks most games:
14 Blocks South Dakota 10 Blocks Wisconsin 12 Blocks Mizzou 7 Blocks Tennessee 5 Blocks Penn State
When DBK did that one press conference before the season started she said that she believes we can win a Natty because they upgraded thier blocking skils, and so far no lies were told! So proud of Cara Cresse because she was more of an MH than a MB now shes both! Even with the Penn state game i think 5 blocks is decent after how poor we played!
Credit to Anna Debeer as well, hugeee upgrade with her blcking skills. Reese and PK too and Luper holding her own as an undersized pin!

We’re just over halfway through non-con and sitting at 5-1, with the only loss coming to Penn State in Rec Hall, which was going to be a tough one no matter what.
Looking ahead, there’s some tough opponents coming up:
This weekend its UNI and Creighton.
Fun fact: Louisville freshman Payton Petersen’s mom Bobbi Petersen is the head coach at UNI, and her sisters Baylee and Sydney (former Longhorn) played at UNI. Payton’s twin sister Jadyn is a freshman Panther this year too, so its a fun family connection there.
Creighton is obviously the more formidable opponent. Creighton has a tough schedule this week and have further to travel, but the team pushed Nebraska to 5 sets and will definitely be hungry for a ranked win. Bilinovic on defense was lights out in that match, Goetzinger in the middle can be a force, and of course Sis and Martin are a strong duo hitting off of Kendra Wait. Should be an entertaining watch.
Then its off to Lexington for the in-state battle with Kentucky. Kentucky has been up and down this season. That being said, they fared much better against Penn State than we did. Their lack of production on the right side can hurt them at times, but they have some really strong players in other areas, including Deleye and Lamb, and can get really scrappy. It’s a toss up depending on which team(s) decide to show up that day.
Lastly we close out the non-con portion of the schedule playing Nebraska at the Yum Center, televised on ABC. A huge match. I think Nebraska‘s flaws have been exposed already this season. Rodriguez, Beason, and Reilly have all taken a step back in the off season, and strong service pressure (esp. targeting Lexi’s outside seam on the line) can really knock the team out of rhythm. The key is to not let Andi Jackson get going. She’ll feast any time there’s a workable pass. With the SMU loss anything is possible, but I do expect the Huskers to put up a really good fight. Both teams will recognize the importance of playing in the Final Four venue this year. I just hope the Cards can put up a fight as well.
These are two very similar teams with scrappy floor defense and inconsistent, inefficient offensive production from the pins, with a star offensive middle who is underutilized. Louisville needs the pins to show up. I hope for the sport’s sake that the first regular-season match to air on ABC is an absolute slugfest full of SportsCenter-worthy highlights, ideally coming from Elena Scott having the match of her life.
Three top ten matchups left before ACC play (and then we get Stanford really early). I predict at least one more loss in non-con, given that Louisville still is doing Louisville things by having high highs and low lows. But, I think going 8-2 or even 7-3 with all Top 10 losses won’t hurt our tournament seeding too much, given how many of the other top teams have performed so far. Of course a 9-1 result would be even better, so fingers crossed the Cards can pull out some strong wins in the next two weeks. Especially because the ACC is possibly the best volleyball conference this year, and will be a gauntlet in and of itself. Pitt, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Florida St.,and SMU are all scary opponents in our near future, and are elevating the entire ACC. Go Cards!

I do agree with you that Creighton is the more formidable team of the weekend, but let's not sell UNI short. In addition to the intra-Peterson-family rivalry, Louisville and UNI have only met three times and Louisville is oh-fer in the series. Last meeting was in 2017, 1st round of the NCAA tourney, UNI swept.
