A few thoughts:
IIRC, Orzol was recovering from a stress fracture in 2021. I don't know if we've ever seen her at OH in her best health.
IMO, at this point Sheffield is trying to ensure we have solid backups. I think Carly Anderson was added primarily to provide an experienced setter to backup Fuerbringer. She also provides the maturity and "been there done that" experience that will allow her to be a mentor to the two freshmen setters.
In 2021 the loss of Danielle Hart led to a season-long search for a workable lineup. In 2023 we lost two matches while we struggled to back fill Smrek during her concussion protocol.
If I were Sheffield I'd be looking for ways to make my bench deeper. The backups don't need to be All-Americans. They need to be good enough that other teams can't exploit them. Wisconsin has enough fire power that they can beat just about anyone as long as their backups play with competence.

How many of those women are fake rowers? Having live in Lakeshore dorms and seen the crew athletes running along the Lakeshore Trail in the morning and then out in the boats on Mendota in the afternoon, I'd answer "none". (And you're the last person I would have expected to cast such aspersions on female UW athletes.) They do go out and recruit athletic females who they think will make excellent rowers. And as evidence, UW has won several national championships in the different types of rowing. Assuming no additional transfers: Franklin/Orzoɫ Booth/Robinson Fuerbringer/Smrek (Schumacher) Güçtekin Given the assumption, I concur, except Damrow might prevail over either Schumacher or Güçtekin. I do think it’s likely we’ll get a fourth OH, whoever that might be. Biggest question on Damrow, can she stay healthy? I'm not so sure at this point. She's basically been battling injury to this knee for 2 years... I believe they're "hoping" at this point she'll be able to train this summer and be ready for the season.

They go out and recruit athletic females who they think will make excellent rowers. And as evidence, UW has won several national championships in the different types of rowing. UNC is not UW. It's track and field at the UW, and elsewhere, where they get the Title IX numbers up. I see no more reason to rag on track athletes than I do to rag on rowers. Stop it.

I edited my post with evidence to support Rainbow. I took was originally in doubt.
To be clear, no one is ragging on anyone who is actually rowing. Just the athletics department reporting on those signing up to try out as being on the team.
From article: The University of Wisconsin claimed to have 165 athletes on its women’s rowing roster even though more than a third of them never raced for the school. Some of the women quit before the regular season even started

I completely disagree.

Nope. You are misreading intent. This is not about the women. In fact, these women trying out are getting exploited for the purpose of Title IX compliance.

My freshman year at SOAR (orientation) a guy from crew gave me the info for the rowing team. I went to the meeting and a practice or two. Wasn't for me. Probably 40-50 guys did the same. If I was being counted as an athlete, yeah, I absolutely would have been a fake rower.

OMG, I was not dissing the women. Not at all. Not dissing anyone who is or tries to be a student athlete. I’m dissing the administration and suggesting they add some more actual women’s sports like Field Hockey and Beach VB so they can stop over-inflating their women’s rowing and indoor track rosters.
I have friends who are women’s rowing alums. I have also heard of people who were shocked to find their names on the NCAA’s list months after they attended one informational meeting.
I’m using somewhat flippant language to describe the use of the names of non-athletes on women’s athletic rosters to spoof Title IX compliance. Some of it is me trying to be funny. Most of it is because “fake rowers” is easier & faster to type on my phone.
What would you prefer I say? Ghost rowers?
Now I’m picturing a boat appearing to row itself out on the lake. If you listen closely when the wind is blowing from the north, you may be able to hear the faint echoes of a coxswain’s voice…

In the context of a culture that tends to dismiss women’s sports, or on a board that elevates vb over other sports, I can understand how the term “fake rowers” could be taken “as all rowers are fake.”
But that interpretation runs straight against everything we know about Rainbow (or Wiswell), and it runs against the provided links documenting the university practice of listing women as rowers who are not in any sense rowers, just so UW can legally have football under title IX without expending any resources to support more women’s sports.
