Sometimes the “best” player has so much extra pressure, playing load to carry, and on/off court responsibilities, they don’t make the best captain. Sometimes they can handle it all. It takes a very mature player and team to figure out what works for the individual and the team. The right captain can exponentially improve team chemistry and team resilience. The wrong captain can destroy team dynamics and player trust. Players and coaches will know the best Badger fit! I agree with your conclusion. Julia will be a fine captain and has certainly earned that honor.
As a separate thought completely unrelated to Julia's captaincy, IMO opinion it's just silly to say that Sarah "lacks something" and is "Too soft and friendly when hardness and toughness is also needed."
Histrionics and hostility on the court are not synonymous with toughness, physical and mental, and leadership on the court. Other Badgers may be as tough on the court in terms of standing in there, never backing down and battling to the end [and Julia is one of them], but nobody is tougher than Sarah Franklin, the player who came back from a life-threatening medical condition to win NPOTY.

I'm excited for Julia to be the captain. At times I felt like she was almost holding back or deferring on the leadership side, at least from what I can see during games. Some of it I think was cultural/language (I'm a fellow eastern European who had to adjust to the US culture), but I think she is past that now. I feel like she will really embrace this opportunity and be a true leader on and off the court for the team. Go Julia!

It's more of a personal resilience and heart that she displays from coming back from a life threatening medical condition and to win NPOY which makes it an amazing story. I'm talking about in game though, in game she seems too soft in terms of her personality when the team itself needs toughness and hardness in times when the oppo is on top.

Arias received the award at the WBA's Awards Gala at the Madison Marriott West I wouldn't! But you never know what shifting corporate media associations mean for personnel. Do they care? Are they required to use only announcers on their payroll? Do they have to hire Jon full time? (Not a bad idea, but corporate bean counters might not agree). Bated breath and crossed fingers and all that. I imagine the program and university will want to preserve Jon and Pete as announcers.

The university seldom has control over who the radio station uses as announcers. I hope they have the awareness to keep Pete. He brings so much knowledge to the broadcast.

I know it’s a long shot, but we moved to WI from San Diego a few years ago. If we had lived here 10 yrs ago we would have been season ticket holders as we are Huge VB fans. We have only been able to secure GA tickets with a donation. If any one has any reserved seats (two together) that you are willing to sell to us. Please let me know. I don’t know if a whole season ticket could be transferred any way. But thought I would ask. We’ll see what we get with badger select again but I do not have high hope of getting any better than GA. GA is hard since we can’t line up for good seats most of the time.

I hate to rain on your parade, but IIRC by the time GA ticket holders without much of a donation history got to sign in to Badger Select, there was nothing left to even sign in and look at. I've had season tickets since 2015, but have little-to-none for a donation history, and by the time my turn came, there was nothing left.

Of course, there's always internet streaming, but the ESPN Madison station they're talking about, 100.5 WTLX, doesn't have a particularly strong signal. According the FCC signal range maps, I'm not sure you can even get the station in Columbus, Stoughton and Mount Horeb, etc.

And last year there was nothing left for me to choose from (except sticking with our 3 Bronze level seats), and I do donate at a high level, albeit only since 2020 when my in-laws transferred they’re FB & BB season tix to us. You probably need to donate something like $10K next year to have much of a shot at anything.

To give you an example of what you need to acquire tix. About 2 years ago before Badger Select, I requested to move down, and was denied. And when I inquired as to why I was unable to move down I was informed that the minimum donation amount to move down was $25,000 a year. I'm guessing around the same level is required to be successful in Badger Selection as well. But I would also say given that they sold out of season tickets last year it's even going to be more difficult this year.

I was informed that the minimum donation amount to move down was $25,000 a year. You can "game" the system by making such a donation next time (it's too late for this year, I believe), putting up in the uppermost tiers of donors, get those premium seats you want, then go back to your normal level of donation (aside from what you need to donate to maintain the seats you just upgraded to). You don't have to keep donating $25K or whatever per year in perpetuity. It just comes down to how much you're willing to spend on the attempt to upgrade your position in Badger Select. There's no guarantee that donating would allow you to upgrade at all, if there's a 100% renewal rate from last year. Then you've just donated for nothing.
