Wisc State Journal just posted this morning she is foregoing the Olympics and headed to Madison for Volleyball. Lol that is a funny spin She knows that her mark is far below the Olympic qualifications & that was basically her last chance to change any of that. Makes sense & was pretty much expected at this point

Wisc State Journal just posted this morning she is foregoing the Olympics and headed to Madison for Volleyball. Lol that is a funny spin In fairness to TSC, there was no spin in the full article; Punzel spelled it out:
Shadd-Ceres had a best jump of 6.14 meters (20 feet, 1 inch) in the trials. That was good enough to win the event but fell short of the Olympic qualifying distance of 6.86 meters (22-5). Her personal best is 6.49 meters (21-3).
She also had a fast enough time in the 100 meter to compete in the trials in that event, but decided not to run because the event was run too close to the long jump.
Shadd-Ceres, a 5-11 outside hitter from Kitchener, Ontario, could try to qualify by hitting the necessary mark in two more meets, but she has chosen to pass that up in order to shift her focus to volleyball. She is expected to arrive at Wisconsin this week.

I mean, I think Shadd Ceres had to come to a decision. The fact that she jumped 6.49 as a 16 year old is actually pretty amazing. If you look at competitive Olympic long jumpers, though, they are usually in their late 20s. She might eventually become competitive, but she has to commit to a decade of development from now on. It will be a long haul.
And if she doesn't really like the life of a solitary track and field performer, as she has told Sheff apparently, then the choice is pretty clear.

Believe I just saw Sarah Franklin with her foot up, socks and shoes off, with a big ice bag on her ankle... 😳

fyi. franklin just went down in the USA u21 match vs. dominican republic - came down from a block and looked like her ankle rolled over as she landed on top of the foot of the girl on the other side of the net. she was able to put some pressure on it and limp off the court. hopefully it will be a speedy recovery
*edited to add the link: injury at 13-14 in the 3rd set:

She's also been the best all around player in this team for this competition, IMO by quite a bit.

Sarah is back in the huddle and is standing without an ice pack (but not putting any weight on her left ankle). Saw she cracked a smile to Olivia Babcock earlier after the injury, so it appears she avoided a serious one.
