I think the TL convo with Wisconsin was, We’d love to have you, we’ll train you 6 rotations, but no promises on playing time or back row time.
Then Texas was, We could fit you on the roster and you could support Madi’s POY push. We got a ton of OH’s so let’s see how it shakes out🤠.
John Cook was, We will definitely start you and play you 6 rotations, you are key to our next National Championship GBR!!! Which translates after signing to, You gotta win your spot in practice & Laney is your DS.
So, reality is now sinking in that if she wants to dictate a six rotation roll, she’s looking at a more lateral move to a team about like Minnesota.

You forgot to add, “But you won’t mind a reduced role because you’ll have six figures of NIL money to keep you happy.”

I was just thinking/wondering yesterday if there would be spring matches. There are only eight players from the 2023 roster who will be on the 2024 roster, with none of the incoming freshmen arriving for spring. So unless some of the departing players are available - and they might be - that makes spring matches tough (and not all that useful).

Even if we do bring in a setter at semester I would be surprised to see actual games.

I don't have any insider knowledge on it, but I doubt it. My guess is it had more to do with the potential incoming transfers that vbdiva had mentioned. That's exactly what I meant. That she was going to get bumped again. The article posted this AM certainly answered all of my Ella-related questions; Sheff was pretty blunt about the situation.

Thought the notes about serving were interesting as well. With CC potentially needing to be a serving sub next year and Ashburn/Hamill leaving it puts a lot of pressure for some new players to make an impact there right away. I think it'll be an interesting component to how the fight for the OH/DS spot(s) ends up playing out.

Re Ella Wrobel's departure, from the article: ❝[...] “Ella is a great player, a great teammate and she was all the way in,” Sheffield said. “Unfortunately, she hasn’t been able to train the way that she has wanted to for two years. She’s a great competitor but there’s a lot of things she hasn’t been able to do during practices and during the off-seasons. It had her falling further and further behind others. ❝“She wasn’t forced out or asked to leave, but I think playing time in its current form right now would’ve been difficult. I think we were more likely to have Orzol stepping into that outside hitter position next year than Ella. I think she’s probably going to go somewhere where there’s a better pathway to playing.”❞ It appears that- 1. Wrobel was given an honest assessment of where she stood- and decided to transfer, and 2. That assessment put her behind a future portal acquisition, but also (surprisingly?) Julia Orzol.

Great article by Punz. Will be fascinating to see who can be disruptive with their serves and who can hold up in serve receive. I loved watching Anna's serves when she got a chance this year and I think Devyn can be similarly disruptive. CC was one of the better servers all year IMO and is a capable passer so I expect she'll get opportunities behind the service line even if it is gonna be tough to get opportunities at middle. Thank you for sharing!

I think this tells you that, outside TL coming in or one of the freshman knocking their socks off, Orzol is the plan on the left side with Franklin. Still not convinced Robinson doesn’t get a look there if they think the need Orzol at Libero to solidify the back row passing.

Julia Orzol. Her being behind Orzoł is unsurprising to me. Oz may not be the strongest hitter, but she’s crafty. She’s a good blocker (especially for her size), a great server, and can pass and defend like a boss. If Ella’s having back probs I bet she hasn’t been doing much training at passing/defending, so even if she’s a better hitter than Oz she’d be a liability in those other two columns.

CC had surgery after the season ended and will miss the spring? Was this known?

While I still think TL is the most likely transfer OH, there are a couple of other OHs in the portal that could be candidates. Since Booth once said that Sheffield told her she should be sure before accepting the offer, I find it likely that Sheffield told TL the same, and TL is doing so. Meanwhile, other pairings are being considered by players and teams, some of them contingent on what TL decides.

If portal closes on Jan 1 I feel like she needs to announce her decision by today or tomorrow to allow the other moving pieces a bit of time to react to her decision. This article plus some other posts on here make me think she has a soft commitment to Wisconsin and they are giving her time to make a final decision. I’d think decision by end of day tomorrow would make sense being it’s last business day before holiday weekend. Classes don’t start in Madison until Jan 23rd I think so she has some time to get that figured out if she is coming here.

I don't think decisions have to be made by that date. As to her deciding today/tomorrow for others to react, is that really something she even needs to be concerned with?
