I really liked the look of Charlie: really smooth movement across the court and buttery with her sets. Connection wasn't always there, but I think that's to be expected of an all-star game with limited practice. She seemed to display the whole range of sets and attacks too. Very excited. Also, constantly changing personnel, and moving between a 5-1 and a 6-2.

I liked Lola's personality. Definitely some fire there. She struggled to make plays while moving though imo, which she's going to have to do to get playing time. EDIT: Forgot to mention that her OOS setting was very good (except a few times where she tried to do too much, that's okay) both overhand and underhand. Charlie definitely has the toolkit of a beach player - took her a while to get warmed up defensively but I'd say that my only concern with her is that her location didn't seem as consistent as it will need to be. How was Charlie's location during the entirety of her past season? I don't have the Mira Costa stream so idk. I have zero idea if her location in this game means anything for the upcoming season, but people on the match thread were giving her crap for setting moonballs to which others pointed out that 2024 Wisconsin won't have an issue with that. She had a couple trap sets early but that could have been nerves too. To be fair I did not notice location issues in the U-19 championships when I watched those streams. I think Charlie will be fine, but I'm just tempering my "day 1 stud" hopes a bit.

Charlie set a really fast tempo at Mira Costa from what I got watching CIF games on NFHS network. and her location was pretty solid all season... they probably were the only team all season that played Del Mar (national champions) pretty even . Madison is getting a stud. She really did it all tonight. great defense. setter dumps. aggressive rips (one very cheeky and very Micha Christiansonesk) really great flat serve. and a couple really great blocks. the only meh for me was sets to tight to the middles (infront, and behind) but that is normal in a game like this.
Lola was also pretty incredible. verbal leader, great movement and nose for the ball . these two are going to be good ones.
i wonder if Lola and a healthy Damrow push GG and Orzel for playing time next season. ( i hope so)

Oh yeah, I forgot about Charlie's serve. I think the most aggressive one at this game - she's going to rack up some aces and put a lot of teams consistently out of system with that.
There was one play I saw from her that I thought was super cool, a free ball came over in the front row and she was also in front, so she was able to set while facing towards the net, drew two players trying to stop her from going second ball over (which she did a lot) and then set it to her opposite who was able to dunk it.
There's no question she will be a fan favorite. She does a lot of really cool things. I'm sure Sheffield will rein in a few of the more high-risk things, probably make her a bit more conservative on the setter dumps, and yet she's still going to have plenty to make the crowd ooh and aah.

How was Charlie's location during the entirety of her past season? Can't wait to see Lola grow! She clearly made a positive impression on one of the UA coaches. Coach Kiy had multiple instagram posts about her: www.instagram.com/reel/C1kfMdBPPep/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

I don’t remember that kind of offensive aggression from Charlie during the U19 USNT matches. She was either following coaches instruction to get the block off the pins or realizing this was a showcase. I don’t think it will be a challenge for the badger coaches to rein that in.
I think she comes in well ahead of where Hilley was. Question is whether she can develop her leadership, decision making and tactical acumen over time along the same trajectory as Hilley.

Looks like Fuerbringer is gonna double as a right side! 😀 Believe through almost 2 sets she's got 5 kills. Lola is a firecracker! Lead a timeout huddle. Fun at the Field House next year. I mean, when Horner gets here they could run a 6-2 with no subs lol. That would be a 5-2?

Regardless of system there's a wrinkle when you have that option; the 2013 team benefited by having Courtney Thomas on the court when Carlini had to take the first ball Thomas would step in for the second. It's a neat way to make out of system slightly more in system.

Charlie kind of reminds me of a hybrid Carlini & Hilley. Her hands and "smoothness" of movement on the court is very Carlini-esque. Her size and athleticism reminds me a bit of Hilley. I'm excited to have a pure setter of her caliber on the team for the next four years. She's got all-conference/all-american potential oozing from her. I'll be curious how quickly she adapts to the hitters and how her on-court leadership style compliments the rest of the players, but very, very excited to get her in a jersey this fall.
I also thought Lola had moments where she looked amazing and others that were a little more troublesome. You can tell the talent is there and she will be a great addition to the backcourt. I wish she and Charlie were enrolling early, but it is what it is. Hope they get up to speed quickly this fall!

That’s right… and Fuerbringer is 5’11” and slimmer, a size more similar to Hilley than Carlini.
