I knew the trolls would appear. All I meant was in view of Harper’s mistake there’s gonna be a lot of focus on the team. Yes, Krause can drink legally. No, it’s not a big deal. Trolls be gone… The other girls on the team are already getting harassed about Harper under every post they make on social media. Now those on team who are of age are supposed to avoid alcohol altogether because one of their teammates made a poor choice? That's a ridiculous expectation to place on girls who didn't make the choice for Harper. Every post they make they’re being harassed??? Really?

On every Tik Tok, every Instagram post they’ve made since this happened, there have been mentions of Harper asking what’s going to happen to her or telling them she should be kicked off. Some have been really, really bad.

Some have been really, really bad. Not saying negative comments are okay, but there’s also hundreds of positive comments supporting the team on any given Nebraska VB post. Including several that go too far (IMO) by dismissing the severity of the incident. And financially the players are taken care of more than any other college volleyball players in the nation. So yes, there will be some unnecessary comments regarding what happened but also considering she went right back to practice she has the support and financial means to get through it better than most people would, I wouldn't worry. We’ve seen it plenty of time in athletics, both HM and Nebraska will be fine and competing for a championship come the fall.

“And financially the players are taken care of more than any other college volleyball players in the nation” Does anyone actually know how much these players are making? There are certainly lots of assumptions but what do they make baseline even without individual NIL deals? Several hundred per month? Several thousand? Just curious….

I’m not looking to victimize the players, and in many ways, the HM stuff is just a pivot from all the negative comments they’ve gotten about the championship for months. Negative comments are part of their worlds by now. Not okay, but it’s real, and they’ve survived with it. I was just replying to the post which seemed to be doubting the extent to which other players have had to hear about Harper’s stuff.

I guess it’s all “NIL” but seems like there are specific paid partnerships done by individual players with companies they promote but then there’s just what they make as a Nebraska volleyball player -their “Roster Value”. I’m assuming they receive a stipend from the NE collective just for being a Nebraska Volleyball player.

Happy birthday to Merritt! I'll be posting a video highlighting some of her best moments from her first season as a Husker. Probably up by tomorrow.

sometimes I wonder what that national championship post presser would have been like if junior beason had been called instead of freshman murray. it was done intentionally but still

I’m assuming they receive a stipend from the NE collective just for being a Nebraska Volleyball player. There’s a lot of opacity. The few people who do know for each program have no motivation or inclination to post it here. At major programs there is a stipend that helps pay for living expenses above and beyond tuition and books. Often times it can be several thousand per month. But when it’s applied it is applied generally across the board, not to specific sports or specific players. I know of no athletic department that pays a different amount in terms of living expenses based on sport played or level of contribution. The collectives are not part of the athletic department, but all of it is rather murky, which is different from state to state and institution to institution. Since there’s no federal law regarding NIL and the NCAA’s ability to enforce anything regarding NIL is inconsistent at best, and each state legislature can pass their own separate laws regarding NI, it results in some collectives working much closer with coaches and athletic department personnel than others. Nebraska has a robust NIL dedicated to volleyball - without question the best funded in the country. How that is disbursed to the players, on what basis, and who makes those decisions is not clear. Not to mention plenty of local Nebraska businesses support Nebraska volleyball players outside the confines of the collective, so there is that as well. It’s important not to point fingers at Nebraska and how they conduct their business. It’s not clear how this works at any university. The only thing I can say for certain is the top schools all have some kind of NIL program, even if it’s woefully inadequate compared to places like Nebraska or Texas. What that means in terms of dollar figures I have no idea. Nobody is making the kind of money from the collectives that people are making in football or basketball. My best guess is that the highest paid players are making low 6 digits at best, but mostly it’s low 5 digits. Anything more than that and it’s more due to their hustle in terms of making themselves marketable (being attractive is helpful) - especially with high follower and engagement numbers on social media so they have an established audience - and less because of the collective associated with the university.

Playing VB for Nebraska has its perks but it can be what Agency you sign with and what you have to offer that determines your overall NIL value. The highest paid woman in NIL history with an NIL valuation of $3.6 million is a gymnast for 2024 SEC champion LSU. She has the looks and as if she didn't have it all already her boyfriend recently signed a $9.2 million contract as the overall #1 pick in the 2023 MLB draft.
