Hey Husker fans, can anyone provide some analytics concerning the Huskers serving effectiveness last season? What does volley metrics use to evaluate overall serving effectiveness and where did team rank last year? Just using the aces/ errors ratio can't be enough to make a fair evaluation. I know it is a major focus in practice and something to improve on, but the team was serving very well at the end of last season. Harper made major strides by end of year. I expect to see more team improvement at the line this year. Cook mentioned they are working on jump serves as well and have a few players who are pretty good at it. We will see.

I don’t have access to volleymetrics, but they put out sideout percentages, which the measurement of how often a server’s team scores when she’s serving, as well as serve receive metrics. Serve receive is somewhat subjective. It’s a measurement of how well a defender receives a ball. Are they aced? Did they keep the ball in play but not in a way where their team could make an attack? Did they get the ball to the setter, but the setter was limited in their options? Or did they get the ball to the setter where the setter had all her attack options available? That’s measured on a scale of zero to three. The server is then rated on how well or how poorly the opponent receives their serves.

We will see. with all due respect I hope that we moreso walk the walk with serving aggressive (and effectively) right out the gate this season. on another note, if pierce and mauch end up serving and consequently having strong backrow or DS roles for a rotation or whatever I don't see Orr or Boesiger getting much time on the court, especially if their float serves aren't particularly formidable

I guess it’s all “NIL” but seems like there are specific paid partnerships done by individual players with companies they promote but then there’s just what they make as a Nebraska volleyball player -their “Roster Value”. I’m assuming they receive a stipend from the NE collective just for being a Nebraska Volleyball player. There’s a lot of opacity. The few people who do know for each program have no motivation or inclination to post it here. At major programs there is a stipend that helps pay for living expenses above and beyond tuition and books. Often times it can be several thousand per month. But when it’s applied it is applied generally across the board, not to specific sports or specific players. I know of no athletic department that pays a different amount in terms of living expenses based on sport played or level of contribution. The collectives are not part of the athletic department, but all of it is rather murky, which is different from state to state and institution to institution. Since there’s no federal law regarding NIL and the NCAA’s ability to enforce anything regarding NIL is inconsistent at best, and each state legislature can pass their own separate laws regarding NI, it results in some collectives working much closer with coaches and athletic department personnel than others. Nebraska has a robust NIL dedicated to volleyball - without question the best funded in the country. How that is disbursed to the players, on what basis, and who makes those decisions is not clear. Not to mention plenty of local Nebraska businesses support Nebraska volleyball players outside the confines of the collective, so there is that as well. It’s important not to point fingers at Nebraska and how they conduct their business. It’s not clear how this works at any university. The only thing I can say for certain is the top schools all have some kind of NIL program, even if it’s woefully inadequate compared to places like Nebraska or Texas. What that means in terms of dollar figures I have no idea. Nobody is making the kind of money from the collectives that people are making in football or basketball. My best guess is that the highest paid players are making low 6 digits at best, but mostly it’s low 5 digits. Anything more than that and it’s more due to their hustle in terms of making themselves marketable (being attractive is helpful) - especially with high follower and engagement numbers on social media so they have an established audience - and less because of the collective associated with the university.

Closed scrimmage with K-State this Sat.? I am waiting for an answer too lol... curious to see Kansas's arc this season Cook confirmed in his presser today that they are playing a closed scrimmage tomorrow. The K state coach mentioned that they were playing Nebraska and Mizzou this spring and a K-State fan on here said that he thought that they were playing the Huskers in a spring game on the 20th. I think it all fits together.

Closed scrimmage with K-State this Sat.? Merritt confirmed this in a TikTok video this morning Which makes it funny that when the media asked who the opponent was, Cook said it was a need-to-know basis. The info has already been out there for awhile, just say who it's against lol

They did the same thing last spring when they scrimmaged Creighton
