Hope Damuni finds a great team. She deserves an opportunity to show what she can do. I don't think she's been given that at BYU. I went to the first spring match against Utah and figured she would be hitting the transfer portal unless something drastic happened. Not surprised in the least.
Edited to add: I'm hoping for the best for next year's team, but I'm not expecting much.

Same here- I really hope the team does well this Fall, but yes, Damuni is a unique all around player. I only saw the last Utah scrimmage, but heard from others that she played a 5-1 at UVU and won while Bower lost both 5-1s at the last scrimmage and UVU. She is a freshmen and will get better and better. But, like Meyer, it is sad to see such great talent wasted at BYU. Sometimes I felt that Damuni could at least have helped in the backrow at times- somewhere besides standing on the sidelines. Heather seems to have decided on the Bower setters sisters in advance and will just go with that development no matter who is already there. I wonder about 2025 when Suli and another setter come in? Hmmmmm how will that roll?

Before that I was willing to give Coach Olmstead some leeway with this as I'm not privy to practices, but what I saw was a coach that appeared to have already made up her mind and that didn't make sense to me.

I didnt quite realize all of that as I only watched the last scrimmage. But, hopefully Heather has her grand plan figured out and it pans out.

Interesting points. BTW Suli Davis got MVP for Open 18s National- TAV 18 champions. She will be amazing when she gets here along the RS Anna who actually sets as well 2025. I wonder what Heather will do when a 6'1 RS/Setter gets here? She got Damuni and Bower. I stand by my opinion that Damuni should be starting and agree with Marn's observations in that department. But, I also agree with Marn that she probably won't with A Bower on the team. As as the libero, uluawe will be amazing too. I have watched her during club tournaments and she doesn't let anything fall. She could possibly be a younger hiapo? Uluawe is the whole key to this team's defense. If she is the real deal then she will be the second (back row) HS recruit in the entire tenure of Olmstead to make a positive impact on the program. BYU just has to have her come in a stabilize the back row. If she stays all 4 years she will be the only one to do that, who was recruited by Heather! Damuni probably has a 10% chance to start at BYU as the setter. Those odds are slipping down every time Bower starts in a 5-1. It is too bad, but that is the way the Bowers and Heather roll. If BYU doesn't come out of the gate, hot, with Alex in the first non-conf tourney then Damuni may have an increased chance at the setting position. But, I still think if Bower can't win in a 5-1 Damuni will share setting responsibilities in a 6-2 with Bower.

It is shocking actually. But before I get bbg to wake up To be honest, I often don't read your comments because they aren't worth my time since you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Every time I read your comments, I have to laugh. When you say, "to be honest" .... you might as well say you are lying. Everyone knows you read my comments. My comments may "not be worth" your time, but you comment on them almost every time. We know you read them and we know you have to comment on them because what i say in almost always (not always) spot on with the BYU program. The fact that you can't be even keel about the program and see reality isn't my issue. It is yours.

Isn't she like a hometown, double-legacy LDS kid? Shocking transfer. She is a hometown legacy kid. I have beat the drums on this issue for 4-5 years. Heather can't, for some reason, stomach legacy kids. She is Bower homer and Damuni finally brought this into focus for some (not all of you). Damuni is a better setter in every respect than Alex Bower. I am just going to come out and say this will be a bad bad look for BYU and mostly Heather Olmstead. She is hard headed and loves momma Bower. I think BYU will finish top 4 in the B12 but it will be tight. With Damuni they would fight for a top 2 finish. It is really sad. Damuni has everyone's attention, but I am telling you that Meyer was even better than W Bower and had that situation been handled decent at all we would have had Meyer for 2-3 years as a starter. We would have won some Sweet 16 matches over the last 4 years and the program would be better. We wouldn't have had as many dumps but we would have had more wins! It is disheartening to say the least, with this Damuni situation. I guess if you are a setter from around Utah, you better not go to BYU if a Bower is in the house. Big message to all recruits!

First Meyer, now Damuni… the nepotism is real I mean, Whitney Bower has been on a pro roster all season. But sure, "nepotism." I guess it was the "nepotism" that runs rampant that forced Atlanta to use a second-round pick on her and keep her. Also, Morgan Bower basically never played her last two seasons. Eden Bower has been in and out of the lineup despite being a highly-touted prospect (extra amusing because Erin Livingston--a walk-on--played over her because she was better). And it's also not like Alex Bower wasn't a highly-touted recruit. We'll see what happens, but the marns of the world who think they know more than a national coach of the year is hilarious. Edit: as for Damuni, I'm sad to see her go, but I'm never surprised when a setter transfers if it looks like they won't start. They're like quarterbacks.

Here we have bbg commenting again in the spring ... when she is supposed to be asleep! W Bower has been on pro roster all season but hasn't played other than 1 serve (as a serving specialist)! We have a girl who was 2 years out of vb and not really in great shape (but had great training in Louisville by a much more knowledgeable coach than Olmstead) and she walks onto the Atlanta Vibe court and starts over Whitney Bower who played for 5 consecutive years and immediately went to Atlanta from BYU. What do you think the odds are of W Bower beating out Tori Dilfer? I say not very high. If Bower does start, she won't hold the job long because she is going to try to dump every ball that comes down within 2 ft of the net. That is what she does! The pro players will catch on and shove it back down her throat. She also has huge location issues and cadence problems. If she starts watch the Vibe lose way more than they did with Dilfer. Anyway, there is no way that even the most ardent BYU fan can look at Meyer and Damuni and say that they weren't good enough to start. Damuni is much better than A Bower. Nothing to even compare. The Bower club teams were never close to national contenders. I mean not even close. Damuni played on the best club team in the nation .... except that they were hindered by the ego driven Reed Carlson coach who wore them down and burned them out. But they still finished 4th in open. If you just look at the head to head A Bower vs Damuni record .... Damuni had a 10 -1 advantage. I thought it would be wise of Heather to promise Damuni some playing time in the fall because I think BYU will need her. But instead, Heather couldn't stand the vb knowledgeable people in the BYU circles talking about Damuni all the time. From what I was just told, Heather pulled Damuni aside in her office and told her that she needed to transfer if she wanted to play. Just a dumb decision. That is from a very good source. So, into the portal she goes. Bower family has approved the transaction!!

I look forward to reading the banter between BBG and Marn- it is very entertaining LOL. I do see bbg's side about A Bower being highly touted. However, so was damuni. I have watched them play against eachother in club tournaments.... As Marn said... seriously no comparison..... I have not seen Meyer play in person, but her coach did an interview claiming she would make it to the olympic team someday; yet at BYU, she never saw the floor. What Marn heard about Damuni being called in and saying if she wanted to play, she needed to transfer sounds like what he said Meyer was told a couple years back. I think what many are saying now with this damuni transfer is... why? If you have players that are better, why are they not playing or at least given the reps necessary to show what they can do. I didn't quite believe Marn's claims that olmstead just doesn't want to show what damuni could do, for fear that everyone would see it and wonder about her decisions. She is a national level coach... why would you ever do that? But, with this 2nd situation surrounding the same last name of players, I don't see how it can't be a thought, at the least.

We will see just how momma Bower hyped her kid in national circles. Eden was highly rated also. Will she again start this year (and be benched)? Funny fact, but Alex was higher rated than Whitney .... lets just watch and see this whole situation unfold. See how these rankings hold up. BYU and Heather's record will continue to decline in win % as they make these types of horrible vb decisions. With BYU's easy non Con schedule they will look like world beaters until league starts and scouting takes center stage.
