There’s a lengthy conversation about private schools in Wisconsin, especially in volleyball dominating. If you look at Girls State this year many of the schools are private, religious schools. Some people think that’s unfair. Yes, same concerns were being raised after Assumption High, Louisville won their recent title. Got it, thanks for the context.

Yes, same concerns were being raised after Assumption High, Louisville won their recent title. Got it, thanks for the context. I don’t know if there’s a perfect solution. There used to be WISAA for private schools and WIAA for public. Folks thought that was unfair since sometimes teams who ‘had no business’ competing in a state competition got to go to ‘state’. Why not have two conferences and then have a final competition between both. Historically some private school sports were well recruited and sought after. Others like swimming, were under supported. So you could have a gang busters women’s volleyball team or basket ball team and other sports programs were lack luster. DSHA is a long time HS volleyball power house.

They did at least make a change that Private schools must play up a division (obvi doesn't effect those already at D1), but I do think that helps.

The Badgers libero position will be very interesting next year. Kristen Simon turned down a FULL ride to Stanford to go to Madison. She also had a 3 and 1/2 year scholarship to her hometown Cardinals on the table as well. GG's a senior. Then you have Saige, Lola, and a UBER talented Simon. I wouldn't count out Simon from seeing extensive court time. She is legit.

WIAA has a
Competitive Balance Program based on points on winning championships. Private schools are not automatically moved up unless they accumulate 6 points in so many years just as other successful schools. Divisions are based on school enrollment and you can be moved up to a larger enrollment Division by winning 6 points. The only exception is Division One as there is no further larger Division to place them. More info on the WIAA website.

From today's Wisconsin State Journal article Coach Sheffield would like to add 4 additional players for next season. We will have 14 counting the four '25's. The new roster limit is 18 players and we have scholarships available. Lets Go Bucky! 🤧 Addy Horner will join Madison as early enrollees next spring.

National signing day so here's some highlights. Here's a great look at Kristen Simon's libero play. Wearing Number 7 black uni back to the videographer. Her club team is Kiva Red 17.

You absolutely stan a good libero!! That ball was coming up buttery smooth on those serve receive attempts and that first OOS was stellar. She's gonna give Lola a run for her money next year in my opinion.

Lynney Tarnow, 2026 MB commit of Benet Academy is playing for the Class 4A Illinois State title tonight. I think this was Anne Marie Hickey's school? Still have the ringing in my ears from the 2010 Badger match at NIU from all her classmates screaming.
