Does it seem like most of the Team USA players that made the Tokyo roster or just missed it (ie Carlini, SWP, etc) haven gotten worse compared to 3 years ago? I would have thought winning Olympic Gold would inspire Hancock, Washington and Drews to improve more. Although maybe it's just the effects of Father Time. I also would have hoped missing on the last Olympics would have lit a fire under Carlini to up her level. But she seems to have regressed. It's not an unusual phenomenon historically. It's Father Time, but it also seems to be a deflating effect/factor of not making an Olympic roster (not true for every athlete, of course).
I think there's also a perception that athletic performance is more stable than it really is. The NBA and NFL are littered with guys who found a high level of performance for a couple seasons and then 3 years after that weren't even starters. Injury is often a factor, but even there, it's not usually one catastrophic injury; it's the everyday stuff that adds up... shoulder gets a little tight and you don't take as many swings in practice so your rhythm is just a bit off... knee is a little wonky so maybe you don't quite launch through that backrow attack the way you used to, etc.
The Olympic cycle is really crazy. If you hit your apex in year 2 of a quad, and then don't make that Olympics 2 years later... the next Olympics is going to see you trying to make it 6 years after your peak. That's going to be tough.
And there's just luck too. For example, between 1999 and 2014, Pop won 5 championships and went to another finals as coach of the Spurs. But none of them coincided with Olympic years. If, for some reason, they only played the NBA Championship every 4 years, we might look at Pop as just another coach, instead of one of the greatest of all time. Kerr won 4 championships in 8 years but didn't make it in 2020 or 2021 and lost in the finals in 2016. There's a lot more luck in the Olympics than people realize.

obviously excluding the ones that already have like oneal, hentz, Evans, etc

I cant imagine fringe players would want to miss out

Thank you… like I love her but I miss the fluid, dynamic Carlini that could fling the ball around and make her sets look effortless. Now her setting looks so stiff and she like doesn’t have a solid connection with anyone. She’s still a good setter but she has regressed for sure. Not looking cute for Paris in ~6 months

Do I know what I am talking about as it pertains to Lauren? No. Do I have an opinion anyway? Yes.

I cant imagine fringe players would want to miss out My question is why would the league/team owners allow them to not fulfill their contract? I wonder if this was mentioned within that? Doesn’t the international leagues championships extend into VNL usually too and those players stay? Sorry lots of questions, just curious as to how this is going to play out.

PR has, but they had to get exemption. PVF has stated they wont keep players from NT duty (Which im not 100% sure they even have a choice, but i dont know the rules about that) It's the league's problem since they chose to extend into NT season

The club championships are usually right before VNL starts which is why some of the ladies come later right? (I was thinking they came later bc they were still playing)

PVF will be playing matches in the international period... which is not.. good.

It won't be ideal for the league to still be playing matches if a handful (or more) of their stars have to leave early to report for NT duties. Could also be a big red flag for those athletes looking to join the league but know it'll effect their NT responsibilities.

It's not like any new players are getting added to the mix in the Olympic year. If they are going to send a B team to VNL, it'll be either last pool week or for Finals.
They will need to adjust the schedule for next season.
