I think that’s a bit far. USA was having limited practice with coaches in beekeeper suits while (some) National teams were all in a full training camp bubble with full training. You could argue that the biggest benefit the USA had in the Olympic postponement was that they were able to get back to normal training and play by ‘21 whereas if the Olympics stayed in ‘20 that China and Brazil would have had big advantages. But I don’t think the facts support the USA NTs training being less disrupted than other competitors. This is substantially the same thing I said.
My bad, I thought when you said, "USA got lucky that the Tokyo Olympics got disrupted by Covid," you meant that they were on track to NOT do well in 2020, then covid came and they gained an advantage on other teams.
My argument is that USA was on track for a great Olympics in 2020, covid came and disrupted things, but disrupted USA as much or more than other NTs, several of whom, to my knowledge, were able to immediately bring all athletes in to their training center and live in dorms and train basically normally, as opposed to what USA had to do. Then, since the Olympics were postponed, USA was able to get back on equal footing in training in '21 and they won gold.

covid did end up helping the usa's chances at gold tho... other countries teams were weaker than they were in 2020 and at the time, jwo - who karch called their mvp of the olympics, was not even close to the level she was the summer of 2021. The extra year also gave foluke more time to get back into playing shape and she became a starter. obviously still a medal favorite regardless but the other top national teams declined more in that year than usa did

I think everyone forgets how good China was in 2019

Once again gonna plug skinner for the Olympics… If she can do it with Malinov, she can do it with USA setters. Plummer, I’m not sure. Uh, Plummer is a world class hitter. It baffles me how much she's still underrated in 2024. It shouldn't baffle you. Just watch her play.

It baffles me how much she's still underrated in 2024. I want Plummer to succeed, but she's playing next to two of the best passers in the world. She also has a lot of pressure taken off of her with Haak, and has Wolosz (the best setter in the world right now). I'm not saying she can't do it, but I'm more skeptical about her than Skinner.

Frantti has been sus at times, Bajema’s numbers well we don’t have to go there, Plummer has been consistently starting over Lanier, etc. Which outside besides KRob has been convincing? Lol. Larson in the practice gym?

Larson in the practice gym? exactly. Plummer is on the roster unless she has a tragic VNL. HOWEVER, to answer your question. SWP

SWP I honestly don’t think USA outsides are having bad seasons relative to other nations lol. Whether they bring it during NT play is a whole other question though

Since I was accused of partaking in mind altering substances after I said that I'd take Kipp over Annie to Paris at this point, here's some stats from Kipp at Firenze this year now that her season's over and Annie at Megabox last year:
Kipp: 11 games, 39 sets, 137-44-358 hitting (.260), 23 blocks (0.59/set), 8 aces 11 errors in 98 serves Annie: 16 games, 63 sets, 250-97-608 hitting (.252), 10 blocks (0.16/set), 11 aces 38 errors in 206 serves
It wouldn't be 2021 Annie going to Paris, it would be 2024 Annie and there's no reason to think that's better than 2023 Annie was, likely worse. Annie also had better setting with Hancock than Kipp got at Firenze and still hit worse. Plus Kipp did this a few weeks after finishing at Stanford while Annie's been a professional for years so Kipp has a ton more room for improvement/upside IMO. Kipp is already a better floor defender, which isn't saying much since Annie is awful but still.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You’ll do better next time.
