I feel like we're gonna see the A-team (or at least only people who are being considered for the A team) for the entirety of VNL 2024

all I know is if Pukis doesn’t get a shot this summer at the VNL… like Poulter won’t be ready, and we’re taking Hancock and Carlini barring injury. give her a shot and maybe she outperforms one of them🫣 lol she won't. carlini and Hancock looked every bit as good as pukis does right now.... 7 and 9 years ago. I love pukis but just no lmao thats not happening THIS summer

If Vegas makes the PVF playoffs... that coincides with week 1 of VNL i think (or the regular season might? I dont know for sure)... would karch take her out for that? Asjia and Hentz he would...

Vegas Thrill in the PVF so she’ll get a “full season”. she was like the third pick or something in the draft

I have a hard time believing Pukis outperforms either in the short term. Carlini and Hancock have played pro for a long time and bring a lot of tangible and intangible skill, much of which was gained playing professionally. and I’m not saying she necessarily will! but what is Evans gonna do for us at VNL? I mean, she’s fine, but I don’t think she’ll ever be the #1 or #2 option for the USA barring injuries. Pukis actually has that potential imo so might as well get her run, and then if she does really well like Asjia did, we have another option for paris, whether we use it or not. the wild card would’ve been Jenna Gray who was having a good season in Brazil before getting hurt:/ SKT has been incredible for her French team too but her being on the wide roster doesn’t seem likely at this point with Hilley, Evans, and co. still being in the mix Makes sense and agree. I think some of the setters in the US league will have a leg up on French, German league players given the level of competition and Karch having his eye directly on them here. Italy, Turkey...not as much.

seeing carlini and hancock hover on bottom dwellers in turkey/italy isnt very encouraging though...

seeing carlini and hancock hover on bottom dwellers in turkey/italy isnt very encouraging though... another reason i want Pukis (and SKT!) in the mf building instead of others😭 I should watch some of Carlini/Hancock on VM this week just to see if it’s their fault or not

It's always Hancock's fault, and it's never Carlini's fault.

poulter/carlini/hancock are all B1G graduates. the next setter to replace them comes from which conference? 👀

I am 100% behind getting pukis in the national team gym, but I dont see the benefit (for usa) in having her play in matches over this specific summer UNLESS she is truly a top 3 setter in the gym

This is probably its own thread, but the effect of the US pro leagues on Team USA Volleyball is going to be interesting…All of these college players extending careers and their fans wanting them on USA rosters. At the same time many will get no exposure to the international game at a high level or adapt their skills to true international rules.

But Italy used Molten, not mikasa for the longest time... so we'll see. I think the level of coaching will have an impact... none of the coaches sans Angel have pro experience coaching... and Tayyiba is the only one who has played at an elite level.

There is a benefit to playing with & against the best players in the world for half the year. There has also been a bit of natural selection with only so many players able to get a foothold in Italy & Turkey, and only a percentage of those rising to be starters at that level. USA coaches are going to have a lot of pro players (and their college coaches, fans etc.) working them for roster spots going forward.
