For those SEC teams visiting Austin for the first time this coming Fall, a short introduction to our old, creaky gym. And it is LOUD, especially when Texas serves. The noise disrupts the communication on the opposing teams. Someone who played college volleyball and had a daughter play in Gregory, responded to my question in another thread if the noise really did bother them:

So of course they bring in Texas 2023 backup setter Marina Crownover to make it FIVE! setters for 2024 (as of now). Their 2023 freshman setter started every match, so clearly she beat out the two junior setters. Where does Marina fit in here, new primary backup? Interesting that Crownover will be with the same coach who talked Jhenna Gabriel out of retirement to lead UNLV to the tournament. 5 setters? that's seems like a lot 😳😳😳 5 setters. That seems a little like overkill in that position. Maybe some are leaving in May?

Made a quick update to reflect that MB Chaise Campbell is reportedly returning to Bama for her extra COVID year of eligibility, reversing a previous decision to look elsewhere.

Pre-Josh Taylor, Mizzou consistently had very good attendance. Here’s to hoping that will happen again Who was the Mizzou head coach back in the Big 12 days who brought in a lot of Chinese players? Those Mizzou teams were tough. Wayne Kreklow, Uncle? of Molly Kreklow Taylor who was an All-American setter for Missou, who then married Josh Taylor, who then became head coach when Wayne stepped down?

Mizzou used to be arguably the second best team in the SEC. Probably until Leah Edmond got to Kentucky, honestly. They were the 4-seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament after going undefeated.
Can't understate how important the Sullivan hire was. Taylor managed to take what the Kreklows had built and threw it in the dumpster in the span of like 3 seasons.

Missouri will be moving up imo. I agree. The OP wrote:Indeed. They went from 9-19 / 2-16 in Taylor's last year to 18-13 / 9-9 in Sullivan's first year. I became curious and looked into Mizzou's postseason. First I noticed that Mizzou scored 40 points in the 2nd & 3rd games after putting up just 14 in Game One in the tourney loss to Nebraska. Impressive resiliency. Other than knowing about the Jhenna Gabriel / UNLV situation in '22, I hadn't looked much at Sullivan's background until after Crownover ended up at Mizzou. I learned that Sullivan spent more than a decade as an assistant to CJL @ ISU before her five years as head coach at UNLV. I went back and watched her post-match presser after the loss to Nebraska and was very impressed. Sullivan seems like the real deal. I expect Mizzou to pull off a lot of upsets on their climb to the upper echelon of SEC VB, assuming they are able to hang on to Sullivan. Tidbits likely only of interest to Texas fans: she was a freshman OH on Jim Moore's final KSU team (1996). After going 0-6 against Texas in her first three years, she and KSU were 2-0 against Jim Moore's Texas in her senior season (1999).

Mizzou2023 Recap: Perhaps the true surprise story of the year in the SEC. The roster was stitched together with the remnants of the Taylor era and included a seemingly random collection of parts (four setters on the roster – FOUR!) So of course they bring in Texas 2023 backup setter Marina Crownover to make it FIVE! setters for 2024 (as of now). Their 2023 freshman setter started every match, so clearly she beat out the two junior setters. Where does Marina fit in here, new primary backup? Interesting that Crownover will be with the same coach who talked Jhenna Gabriel out of retirement to lead UNLV to the tournament. Maybe they run a 6-2? Franco is a capable opposite.
