Noticed that Goree made her instagram private since yesterday. Surprised to see the Idaho volleyball page only has one negative comment about Chris. Either they are deleting comments or it hasn’t caught on yet.

Perfect example of a person who is not a great coach but got around some influential people early in his career developed a huge ego and now thinks he can do what he wants. It’s really sad that A.D’s fall for all the crap he brought with him. Also he was never a full-time coach with USA.. I am sure USA volleyball loves that his name is linked to them. Why does his bio say he was a head coach and assistant coach with USA volleyball?

This is Logan's first coaching job, definitely not what she learned as a player at Washington. So I'm inclined to give her a pass on this, other than her driving (late for a meeting and didn't want coach's wrath?).

The length of this article and the number of examples is absolutely overwhelming, disheartening and egregious. The U of I needs to take action immediately.

Since this was in a Southern Cal paper, any indication that the story has been picked up in Idaho? Edit: Just saw it is now in the Lewiston Tribune link

his idaho bio is wild... After five successful seasons at Long Beach State University, Gonzalez joined the USA women's national team staff as the head and assistant coach from 2001-2003. He coached Team USA to a medal at the FIVB World Championships, FIVB World Cup, FIVB World Grand Prix, and Pam American Games.
Pam?? head coach for the national team is super disingenuous lol it was probably some random norceca event. During his eight seasons in Europe, Gonzalez collaborated with some of the top teams and players in the world including 13 athletes who competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. In total, Gonzalez has trained over 30 Olympians from Russia, Cuba, Netherlands, Japan, Serbia, and the USA, including Brankica Mihajlovic, Nancy Carillo, Bojana Zivkovic, Femke Stoltenborg, Rosir Calderon, Robyn De Kruijf, Laura Dijkema, Evgenia Artamonova, Maret Grotheus and Yurie Nabeya.
this list is lol From 2019-2022 Gonzalez served as the setting coach and offensive coordinator for the Denso Corporation in Japan's top professional V.League. During his two seasons, Denso earned back-to-back V.League Final Fours - Denso's first appearance since 2006.
japan used a final 3 format for the longest time.... this is so LOL you cant make a final four if theres not a final four... lol

Ever since Hugh, the USA gym became home for all sorts of randos who then claimed to be assistant coaches, consultant coaches, etc. etc. It's literally become a cottage industry.

I know people who just sorta showed up in Colorado Springs and shagged balls or whatever and claimed to be assistant coaches under Toshi. (I also know at least one very accomplished coach who got his USAV start doing that, to be fair) Or the people who held a clipboard at a Thursday night qualifier tryout putting "USA Volleyball Youth National Team" on their resume.

Yes, that's true, but Colorado Springs was a little bit different dynamic because of the OTC being there, but you really start to notice it on the Official Olympic rosters starting with Hugh's tenure. It also coincided with the big USAV/GM2 push to milk girls junior club.

I'm talking about the weirdo hangers-on who claimed to be part of the staff.

Hugh had a fairly open gym, so many of those rando's and hangers-ons were in fact in the USA gym in Anaheim--they just didn't have real duties and put it on their resume to advance their opportunities. Karch is more cliquish, but both incorporated the Beal philosophy of promoting GM2/men's tactics to the women's game. Gonzalez was never in the men's game, and he thinks of himself as above GM2, so he was doing it purely for personal advancement.

I think part of the fallout from the turnover and cuts at USAV over the years is few people are left who can identify the bullsh*t artists.

If you go down the former Long Beach State assistant coaching road...you'll find...more of the same and some...worse. So much more to tell...

I think part of the fallout from the turnover and cuts at USAV over the years is few people are left who can identify the bullsh*t artists. The idea then was to open up the tryouts and drive deeper into the athlete base and identify talent that they hadn't identified before. But that the tryouts untenable so they opened that up too, bringing in people who are happy to for free in exchange for an USAV polo and a line in their resume. I don't believe Gonzales was one of those, he was more involved than what I had described.
