Unfortunately that is the way sports like volleyball work. The AD doesn't want to deal with the minor sports, so they delegate to an associate AD, usually the SWA. If the associate AD does not have connections within the sport, they reach out to anyone they think is connected, which results in people doing favors for each other. This is no different from the good old boy network that had been in operation for years in sports, it is just that there are less connection between the ability and reputations of those recommended and reality. To be fair, you'd think a Kelly Sheffield recommendation would be solid. That recommendation is probably based on subjective interaction.

What happened to the Idaho Vandals thread? It was on the front page this morning and I’ve been 5 pages deep and can’t find it

I still can’t get these stories out of my head. The poor players. I hope they can find some mental peace.

What a disgusting story. Shame on everyone in the story defending his decades-long history of mistreatment and being a horrible human being. For the student athletes sake, I hope he never coaches another match.

A new coach comes in with a - uhm, distinct coaching style - and there is bound to be churn, but they bring in players who want what they got and often it works out. I think that brings us to the most most interesting part of this - Kallisha Goree.
Goree apparently was comfortable to go on the record and blame the players. She says the players didn't want to work, they complained, they were ungrateful, they're soft, etc. This is of course notable because she was the recruiting coordinator!
So if she was so bad at screening players/personalities and how they might fit the head coach and the culture they were building, it would make sense that she's not in coaching anymore. Where did she go? According to Linkedin.com, it sounds like she is an executive head hunter! She was so bad at staffing her last project - and apparently admits that the team was miscast - but now she does this for multiple companies around the country.
Perhaps that's why Kriskova was brought in, to recruit more international types, from cultures where Gonzalez can say and do what he wants, or at very least they are happy to be in the US and not Eastern Europe/Baltics/Turkey. I would think 1-27 and this report would end the experiment but if it doesn't, I'm not sure how much worse it can get so there would be nowhere to go but up.

The part where Goree is quoted as saying the players were all so nervous they were practically peeing themselves was particularly egregious to me...like if you have a young team its your job to instil confidence in them so that they are equipped to compete, not to condemn them for being inexperienced and misconstrue their anxiety from being mistreated (in addition to their youth) as weak character

Chris gave himself the additional title of Director of International Recruiting on the Idaho website. Sounds like there’s plenty of blame to go around for the failures. lol

But instead of waiting until the end of the season and asking those who don't fit to go portal shopping, he apparently spent most days unrecruiting them, trying to get them to leave or harm themselves to get the scholarship back and take another swing? Maybe I'm being too generous. Maybe he's just a jerk.

No way in the world Chris thinks of leaving the training to his staff—he considers himself one of the best trainers in the world.

Really disappointing to see what has happened at Idaho. Debbie Buchanan ran a really good program with a lot of integrity.

This whole thing is absolutely outrageous. The more I read, the more shocked I get that he’s still employed. And Goree’s comments are just…. I don’t even have words to describe how disgusted I am by them.
Hopefully this article will force the school to take action but it’s insane that this is what it takes for them to act. I feel bad for all the SAs and hope they get the help they need and end up with coaches that give them the proper treatment and experience they deserve.
