Quick question for anyone who may be affiliated with Paramount, or any other that may have this same setup…. What’s the rationale behind having 15 players on a team? I understand 12, even though I wouldn’t want to have a team with 12.

It’s a gamble is right you have no clue who is signing up where as most of these are filled early Jan if not earlier. They should hope for a tough qualifier as to prepare for Nationals.

Windy City Open bids: 17O: 1st Alliance, Mavs KC, Nebraska One 17 Synergy
Red Rock Open bids: 17O: Wave 17 Juliana, Excel 17 National Red, Club V Red Reed 18O: maybe I'm wrong but I don't think any were awarded...all teams in top 7 had previously qualified

For Paramount money could be one thing, but loyalty is another. As Paramount has gotten better some of the girls who initially started for the team have lost their starting spots. Rather than cut them they probably inform them that their playing time will be limited if they wish to stay. I'm only guessing on the former.
Talking to a couple parents whose daughters get little playing time for Paramount they tell me their daughters want to stay even though their playing time is limited. They leave that choice to their daughters. Personally, I would try to convince them to play for another club where they can get some playing time and increased exposure.
The players feel they get better during their practices and that better prepares them for their high school season. Paramount, like Metro also has developed a name for being a top club in the area. Just carrying the "Paramount" back pack and gear gives you respect, just like one who carries the "Metro" back pack and gear. I'm sure that exists in other regions.
But there are other clubs in other regions that have very full rosters, so it is not just limited to Paramount. While the obvious answer is money, there could be other factors so jumping to conclusions without knowing the facts is not finding the reason. Paramount has started forming second teams, just like Metro developed regional teams to accommodate the number of girls who want to play for the club and carry the "swag". Many of these girls whose playing time has been reduced could drop down to the second team but they don't.

With so many bids handed out this weekend at Windy City, SCVA, Far Western, and Big South, the trickle downs at Show Me, SLC and Lone Star will be interesting. There also looks to be more trickle downs in Reno. For you Californians, can you verify something for me? It appears that the Open Divisions at Far Western are barely eligible to award bids (8 min)...is this accurate?
17 Open 9 teams 16 Open 9 teams 15 Open 15 teams 14 Open 11 teams 13 Open 8 teams
WTH? If true, only 1 bid will be awarded for each division. Would USAV consider removing this event from its Qualifier list? (they did so with Colorado Crossroads for different reasons, but precedent nonetheless).

Yes, I know this. It’s just alarming how insignificant this event has become.

Back in the day, the Pacific Northwest Qualifier was a "non Open" qualifier and didn't hold an Open division. I wonder if this could be in Reno's future? Since it is run by NCVA, I can't see it losing qualifier status all together....(they are the 7th largest region, based on 14-17 Junior Girls population)

I noticed that earlier too. They only show 9 teams registered. I wasn't sure if it was a current list or maybe they just haven't updated. Reno and Spokane seem to be harder to travel to with limited flight times. So many are forced to stay an additional day. Maybe clubs decided it just isn't worth it.

Maybe clubs decided it just isn't worth it. Reno has always been the “last chance” qualifier. It’s almost always the last event of the year. Some years it’s a great field with a bunch of teams taking their last shot at qualifying. Some years it’s been a field of already qualified teams. This year it falls right in the middle of the age group bid events for the surrounding regions, so much lower registration numbers. With the addition of an event in Salt Lake (moved from Colorado after that debacle), the western regions seem to be rather saturated with qualifiers. That seems to have caused the decrease in numbers in Reno. As teams come out of the most recent qualifying events without a bid, we may see an increase of registrations in Reno.

I'd support replacing Reno with a Qualifier in Omaha...you know they'd draw like 10,000 paying fans to watch!

So, I vote no on that. Not to mention 10,000 extra fans would make the tournament a nightmare. The teams/families/friends already there for the event make it full enough.
