what a difference. basically this was the Big West Strikes Back Week. before this last week, nobody had won a top 10 match. impressive, the MPSF was pretty much an unstoppable force. actually similar to last year's slow start and this year was even more lopsided two MPSF undefeated teams cut down and cut down impressively by Beach #2 UCLA losing, AT HOME, to SB BYU losing, ...., AT HOME, .....TWICE....to Irvine probably the most impressive. USC losing......., AT HOME, to Northridge Hawaii winning twice, on the road, granted Fort Wayne isn't top 10 or top 15; but considering integrating a lot of new pieces. Big West going 6-0 in those road games is extremely impressive. Combined with Beach beating 2 undefeateds, while outblocking 28 blocks to 5 blocks in 6 sets, 4.5 blocks / set vs. 0.8 bps. & Beach Banners should be all over Sofia now with this burgeoning Beach Bulgaria Brotherhood bringing Bouchkov's Bloc. other than San Diego not beating UCLA, it was perfect whoever wins conference POW award will be pretty deserving, gonna have tons of candidates - not a good week to be a nominee, will have to be a stratospheric performance to win the awards. Bianchi, Sheward, Bouchkov, Godbold, Hobas et. al. unexpected, and a bit mind-boggling. Big West with the #1 SOS so far masseyratings.com/cmvol/ratings?c=1

Interesting that UCI didn't get any love in the defensive award. Lazar had more blocks but played two weaker teams than UCI did and LB played them both at home.

I feel like if the team is clicking especially Kyle Hobus they do well. Also yikes to the 29 service errors for CSUN. They did outblock Stanford though. Is Stanford missing key athletes or they just aren't playing like how Hawaii is doing "load management"?

Feb 5 AVCA Rankings and Week Schedule
Marquee Matches: #1 Long Beach vs #4 UCLA #3 Hawaii vs #5 Stanford Maybe not 'Marquee' but as a MIVA watcher, I'd add #13 Loyola-Chicago @ #20 Purdue Fort Wayne this Tuesday as worth checking out. PFW upset Penn St. and has a lot of fight in them, especially at home.
