Lots of questions this year. The graduation of 14 of last year's 28 All-Americans and the transfer of one more. There are a lot of chances for new student-athletes to emerge this year. Going to be a fun one!

I find it amusing how wrong frog jumps predictions were for last year, is it going to be just as bad this year?

I find it amusing how wrong frog jumps predictions were for last year, is it going to be just as bad this year? This is the case for any sport's preseason predictions. If it were accurate, what's the point of playing the whole season? By they way, here's AVCA's 2023 preseason poll 1. Carthage 2. Springfield 3. Wentworth 4. Stevens 5. Vassar 6. North Central 7. New Paltz 8. Juniata 9. St. John Fisher 10. Rutgers Newark 11. Messiah 12. Dominican 13. Southern Virginia 14. Lasell 15. NYU On another topic, I think AVCA's poll should be expanded to top 20 or top 25 teams.

UVC going to be an interesting race this year as always. Hobart is the new addition to this conference this year. Here are my pre-season rankings for the year:
1. Vassar - Loss of the 2023 NPOY Kim (Andrew), Gulick, All-American Gavin Van Beveren, and Reyes as libero is hurtful. They return All-American Jacob Kim but it will be interesting to see how this team plays this year with those key players being gone. Hearing rumors of a 6-2 possibly happening in Poughkeepsie with Jacob Kim swinging. Still the clear favorite in this conference with the level of talent on this team.
2. New Paltz - The rebuild is here for New Paltz. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe All-American Pat Wing is the only player to return in the group of Shaffer, LaRosa, Ronan, and Spulnick. Young team this year with incoming freshman setter Matt Marusza taking over the reigns for graduate Shaffer
3. Nazareth - Lost two senior starters in All-American Seth Terzo and setter Trent Caviness. All-American Owen Wickens returns for his final year at Nazareth along with juniors Bodensteiner, Stuver, and Bertino. This team will be hungry to get to the playoffs with how their season ended last year.
4. Fisher - Always tough to rank the two Rochester teams but the loss of All American outside Josh Bigford and middle blocker Matt Bieter will hurt this team more than the losses that Nazareth has. They return All-American middle in Griffin Stella and outside hitter Jake Baker for their final year. Ingerick/Newman will continue to fight for the setting position once again.
5. NYU - Got big shoes to fill with seniors Gautham Dasari and setter Ryan Li graduating. Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like Buddy Cohen and Lucas Osiecki are gone but they do return key players in Fagan, Knudsen, and Boyer. Would have put this team a spot or two higher if they had both Cohen and Osiecki return.
6. MIT - Correct me if I am wrong but this is the only team in UVC returning their whole starting lineup and they get starting middle Dylan Ryan back from injury too. Scary team to play once March comes around…
7. Hobart - New team this year but adding the NPOY in Andrew Kim and a coach like Steve England will definitely help. Roster makes up of Have to imagine this team right now is better than Elmira. 13 freshmen on the team this year out of 17 total players. Will be fun to see this team play in this conference this year...
8. Elmira - Only 4 returners from last year and only 9 total guys on the team this year. Losses of outside Alberto Mauricio to Juniata and opposite Oscar Munidad to graduation doesn’t help. Will struggle this year with the amount of experience on team

Going to be a fun one! Predictions for the MAC? Did Messiah replace their studs? Stevenson? What's up with Alvernia - is their program dead? Eastern should be strong. With new depth to the roster and a veteran first year right side this squad can make a MAC playoff appearance. LITERALLY a veteran first year. He’s more wise then anyone in D3 at 46 years old. Alvernia not able to play until next year. Stevens will be the big dogs in the MAC yet again. Messiah still very talented. Misericordia landed 6’10 Jared Piontowski in the transfer portal from MAC rival Kings college. They return almost their entire roster as well. Got to see them live in fall tournament. Stevenson looks like they return a lot of their offense from last year and will continue to be a contender. Arcadia looks like they lost a little but they always are very respectable. That race for second place in the MAC will be interesting. Eastern has a real shot at it and boy am I fired up. Inject the eastern Eagles into my dog gone veins. WOOHOO. FLY EAGLES FLY.

Losses of outside Alberto Mauricio to Juniata and opposite Oscar Munidad to graduation doesn’t help. Will struggle this year with the amount of experience on team I think the biggest problem with Nazareth and MIT is that they are way to inconsistent, they need to find consistency if they wanna have a real shot at winning the UVC. New paltz has a lot of talented but unproven players, going to be hard to replace Shaffer and Spulnick If Fisher wants to compete than they are going to need Jake Baker to step up in the passing department. He’s a phenomenal hitter but an above average passer. That’s not going to cut it in the UVC I think this is the year NYU finally puts it all together. They only lose Dasari and LI. If Osecki can show more consistency then I think he and Boyer are going to cause some serious damage this year. Hobart is an interesting case, because it’s not everyday a team gets a NPOY transfer. They are going to be a young team, but having a proven winner like Kim on your roster is going to benefit them massively. Think they will turn some heads My preseason ranking 1-Vassar 2-NYU 3-New Paltz 4-Fisher 5-Nazareth 6-Hobart 7-MIT 8-Elmira
