S Tier Serbia Turkey A Tier USA, Brazil, Italy, Poland, DR B Tier China, Netherlands, Canada, Japan I can’t wait for China to field a new team of players you’ve never heard of that shakes your S Tier to life on the D list. China is due. Not with Cai Bin as the coach. We'll have to wait until he is done as coach of the NT. Fans have criticized him for being overtly conservative in his roster choices and failing to train a new generation of players to take over the Zhu Ting generation. Of course, I could be wrong, and there is always the possibility that Cai Bin could learn from his coaching mistakes and failures to improve himself for the sake of the team for Paris. But fans doubt he has that ability. Many Chinese fans see him as simply not cut out for competitive level of international volleyball.

Going through the Olympic grind with 12 is tough. Even if it moves up to 13 (reserve--I assume train and available if injury?), that can still help a lot with rosters. Being outside the Olympic Village would be tough, but if they did, it makes sense to go to 14 (even if only 12 are "active"), to have two reserves ready to go that could change to "active" with injury would be pretty significant. In the current format, those left behind are "alternates" and once play starts, not an option to add. It would be great if an adjustment is made, and ideally 14 in the Olympic Village that are either all active or 12 + 2 reserves. Hope this has a chance!

Fivb might get their way but I’d imagine not until the next cycle. The Olympic village planning has long been done. I don’t know where they’ll (the French) find space for 48 more athletes this late in the game and you know… the French don’t do well with change thrust upon them, essentially last min.

Webvolei got confirmation that +1 has been confirmed.
They will not be available on the bench, but can be used in the case of an injury.

Sounds like its up to each country's olympic commitee to decide if they can make room in the village or have them stay off site. time to get the push for 14 in LA started now... lol

Id be surprised if its not Hentz or another middle. but karch does love a third setter

I could see another middle just because we have Ogbogu/Washington/Rettke/O’Neal as really solid options, plus Stevenson too. but I can VERY easily see him just taking Chi, Leigh, and Ke (that’s cute, right?) and calling it a day. take Poulter for the ceiling potential and if she doesn’t seem ready, activate the other setter.

I'm trying to think of a recent instance where having the ability to add a player to the roster during the Olympics would have made a difference in the final standings....

I wonder if he would’ve subbed Harmotto out in Rio Harmatto shouldn't have been in Rio. lol In terms of the Olympic Village in Paris, the situation is already going to be difficult enough without additional athletes. The Village is in the far NorthEastern part of Paris, and the venue is in the SouthEastern part, and of the 3 proposed transit lanes from the Village, two have been either cancelled or not able to be completed.
