Hello and welcome to the third annual Chester coins MIVA predictions. I can’t believe this is the third year of me doing this, and to have it during the year of the dragon is a dream come true.
I apologize to all the fans out there for not having this done sooner, for I was parasailing from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean via the old 15th century east india company spice route. It had always been a dream of mine to sail the cape of good hope and feel what those spice traders felt back in the glory days of the empire (British). As many of you know, I am also a conesiurrre of fine tea, and the tea I experienced in the ports of galantis were particularly good.
With all that being said, it is time to predict the order I think this years class of MIVA teams will finish and the reasons as to why. Because some of the regular season has started already, I will take into account the results of this week into my reports. Some are saying that MIVA teams used my posts last year saying “The media is writing you off” as motivation. To those teams, I appreciate the spotlight and reserve the right to tell you “I told you so” because y’all stunk.
BELOW IS THE RANKINGS FOR 2024 MIVA TEAMS
1. Ohio State
2. Loyola
3. Quincy
4. Lindenwood
5. PFW
6. Lewis
7. Ball State
8. Mckendree
9. Queens
And now for the breakdowns.
1. Ohio State
Armed with a passion for getting back to the top, this team is looking to go places this year. They possess no other than MIVA MVP frontrunner Jacob pastures and will most likely sweep most teams that come in to their barn this year. They boast a decent fanbase, probably in the upper levels of MIVA play (Lewis, Quincy) and will frustrate you with the fact that most teams need to commute through the worst state in the union (Indiana) to get there. Indiana and OState have had a pact put in place to never repair any highways while maintaining construction on them 70% of the year. Furthermore, they decided to throw stoplights on the highways to frustrate bus drivers and drive overall demeanor on team busses down. Expect this team to split with Loyola and maybe drop a stinker later on but they should lock up the one seed.
2. Loyola
This team looks good. Big as hell, Van Burens a big dog with a great arm and is the other MIVA MVP Favorite. Mangun is a great setter and has a good serve on him as well, a great leader of the offense. They look solid. Fortunately they will continue their streak of being the one team in the league that no other team really !!!!###$$$!!!s with because most of them come off as dbags. Will be looking ahead at Ohio state to steal the 1 seed but must not look over the storm that brews behind them.
3. Quincy
Silently and behind the walls of the black gate (Mississippi River), the kingdom of Quincy has been building an army. One to take back the one true ring (MIVA championship). The ring has been yearning to return home, its attempts routinely spoiled by teams who sneak by with a sweep of Quincy when they go to their home arena. Make no mistake about it, this is the year that Quincy contents for a title and the rest of the conference is uneasy. Most teams continually look to the west, overlooking what has been brewing down under for the last few years. Quincy continues to load up on international talent, a premier destination for these players trying to come to the United States to see if it is just like it is in the movies. When they walk on campus, I think they would tell you they agree (field of dreams). I’ve been trying to equate what it actually feels like to play in Pepsi arena for some time now. As someone that has had to perform there, and barely make it out with a sweep, I have been trying to figure it out now for over 20 years. I think the best comparison is to that of the 1980 Winter Olympics, the miracle on ice venue. Take that and put it on display 15 times a year and that is what you have at the Pepsi arena. Because of the elite color scheme, when you stand on the court and look towards the stands as the national anthem plays, you can’t help but feel the goosebumps tingle. Your eyes travel up the stands, to a pinnacle where the stands meet the ceiling, 200 feet above the court. On most nights, the entire arena is filled with breaming rural folk ready to watch some high end men’s volleyball. And let me tell you, this team has heard the noise this year and are ready to make an impact.
I have sources from inside the team telling me they are considering switching up their approach to traveling to away games. In prior years, the team would show up 40 minutes before game time to preserve legs. This year they will arrive at the same time as other MIVA teams and make an impact that will last a generation. The eyes of all alumni are on you, Qunicy Hawks, they stand with you, and they want you to take back what is rightfully yours.
4. Lindenwood
This team has 9th year oppo AJ Lewis who can give you 20 any night. If he can swing above .300 consistently they will be dangerous. They have also spent some time doing some well needed fan service, doing videos for their scoreboard when they score a point. This will hopefully help drive more fans to the game, increasing numbers by as much as 50%, from 20 to 30 total fans. Hoping they play to win this year and not for impressions on instagram/tiktok. Expect them to struggle with international powerhouse and crosstown rival Quincy.
5. PFW
PFW has some solid pins and middles. This is the year they will outperform Ball State and really compete for a MIVA championship. I think they still have some kinks to work out but they definitely are a scary team this year. Only downfall is they live in Indiana and live in Fort Wayne (P.U.).
6. Lewis
With Tyler Mitchem and Ryan Crouton just graduation last year, this team is looking to reload. Tyler Morgan looks solid as the setter and they have some pins that can do well. They have a high ceiling, but a low floor as well. Dan Friend will probably get the boys playing hard but I expect some struggles this season. Proximity of campus to industrial plant is not helping the team, driving moral down by an estimated 5%.
7. Ball State
Ball State lost almost everyone and reloaded with a bunch of dudes tryna be quirky with mullets. Expect this team to do decent at the beginning of the year and then tail off per usual due to the standard Muncie drinking practices. Buckholder in the middle is a solid option but they need to have some consistency at the pin position.
8. Mckendree
Another team that is reloading with quirky haircuts. I unfortunately will consider this an unserious team until they lose the white beach style jerseys. They do not look good when you’re getting pumped night in and night out. Will most likely split with Lewis for they seem to have their number.
9. Queens
I know nothing of this team.
This is my list for this year. What do you think? What would you change? Sound off in the comments. Below!
