Certainly looking more and more like it's a real small horse race! When you have the Hawaii fans "thanking the gods" for a 5 game win against NMS, WOW! UCSB beats Long Beach but loses to SLO! I still expect the PAC-10 to be a 1 horse race but still a little too early to totally count out Satanford! Penn State could make it a 3 to 4 horse race but right now it still looks like a match race!

Being a Husker fan, I'd like to believe this is just a two-team race but I don't think that is true. Nebraska has a very tough match against Missouri at Columbia this Wednesday and they are #3, right behind the #2 Huskers in Pablo. If we get by them, I'll feel a lot better about being able to get to the tournament undefeated. Given the current Pablo rankings and HCA, NU should win this match on the road but it will be very close.

Beachman, Nebraska was the best bet to win the title last year, wasn't it? huskervbfan appears more realistic. However, Ironically, I'm a fan of both the huskies and huskers. And if Hawaii doesn't win it, I hope either one does, moreso the huskies because they haven't won one yet, and the huskers would tie Hawaii on number of NCAA titles. We can't let it happen (kidding)

As for right now, Beachman is right however. UW and NU looks like the top dogs in womens volleyball this year. I for one, would like this two teams meet because it would be such a good match up. I for one, don't care who wins because I enjoy couple of good players. Don't ask me why, I really like Melissa Elmer of Nebraska and Tomasovic (sp?) of Wasington.

We should have a thread that says: If your team does not win the title, which team do you hope to win it all.
Mine would be: Washington (they have the personnel to do it and have never won it before. should be nice to have a new champs) Minnesota (just to make Ruffda and Gorf happy, they may treat us all VT posters with free t-shirts) Cal (now that they have beaten UCLA, their luck may be changing) Florida (Mary Wise is overdue for a title, after all those years. And something for Gator and Alberta to cheer about)
I would also love UCSB to win it (although BM won't agree). I have always been a fan of the gauchos.

I like Washington too. While their schedule is weak so far, what I like is that they have pounded all their weak opponents. So they are doing exactly what they are supposed to do to lesser competition.
I really fear Stanford. They have the weapons and the history. They just keep improving and Barboza is looking like the top recruit that she is.
And of course I like NU, but I am more concerned about Wed match at the moment.
Penn St. and Minnesota may be a year away with youth and all. So my top 3 picks are NU, Washington and Stanford. Not exactly going out on a limb I know.

Beachman, Nebraska was the best bet to win the title last year, wasn't it? Although Huskers did get the #1 seed in last years tournament, I really don't think a lot people thought there was a top bet to win it last year. And after drawing SoCal in the regional, Nebr's chances looked even worse, the one team that could match up with them physically... and just because SoCal had to go lose to a very poor Wazzu team to mess everything up, they went from a possible #4/#5 seed to a #8. Yeah, I'm still a little bitter about the whole thing. This year is quite a bit different I think. Not saying that UNL and UW are automatic for the finals but it's not nearly the wide open race as it was last year.

I think the Minnesota progression will continue to the climax during Paula's last season... 2003-1st final four, 2004-1st championship appearance, 2005-1st NCAA Title ...depends on how well the rest of the Big10 can get them prepared - the gophers have been more of a slow building team over the past few years, starting the season slow and peaking at the right time during the tourney...

When I see posts like this, I just think of the epic Long Beach State-Nebraska final that took up so much board time in 2001. Oops. Nothing is inevitable.

Yep, who would of thunk that Robyn Lewis would show up in the nic of time to mess everything up. (loved watching her run Stanford; especially when healthy)

Major ditto on that 2c.
She was fun to watch as a setter and she was one of the biggest reasons that Stanford won their matches at the 2001 Final Four.
