Where are all the fellow Canadians/fans at? It's an important year for the Canadian NT. Let's discuss!
Who are we thinking for VNL roster and chances for making top 10 ranking for the Olympics?

I'm wondering outside the core that are basically guaranteed (Gray, Van Ryk, Howe, Mitrovic, Van Buskirk, White, King, the like..) who they might take, especially for outsides? There are a lot of recently graduated Canadians in the last couple of years playing pro in lower tier clubs abroad, so I am wondering if we might see any new faces that have developed a lot abroad. Would also love to see Smrek at least on the long roster! KVR desperately needs some backup. I'm wondering what liberos might go as well, Pallermo started playing pro in Portugal but Murmann and Jost are still playing in University, so it will be interesting to see if the season of pro experience will give Pallermo and edge. Super excited to see who will make the roster!

We have a pretty solid core of established starters (Gray, Van Ryk, King, Maglio) and I think our libero play has improved from 2021. I really hope we make it, but with the dutch ahead by 20ish points in the ranking, we are going to need some upsets. Tbh i wish we would get a vargas-less turkiye over Italy for VNL. Regardless we have to upset some teams anyways to get there.
We have a pretty front heavy schedule, that first week is going to be the toughest imo. Some of the biggest matches for us during VNL will be:
1) all the matches against teams lower in ranking, but especially watch out for the Thailand match. They always have our block spinning, and with that tough first week lineup prior to that match. We cannot plummet in points with a loss to Thailand.
2) Germany and Japan in week 2. They are right close to each of them in the ranking so we can make
3) Netherlands. Like if we could sweep that would be amazing, but it likely isn’t as we have had so many close matches with them recently. This is going to be the most important match for each of them (as long as neither teams shoots themselves in the foot before this).
Anyways, of course we need to grab some upsets here and there. So let’s hope Gray and Van Ryk will lead the way but also have more help from the other starters (esp L2 lol). I’m not loving Gray’s season with ecza, but she is generally better with the NT than in club (except the Poulter-Gray Busto days).

I would like to see Smrek as a dub sub/blocker. I think she can be solid in that role.

I'd like to see Kat Georgiadis and jasmine Rivest on a long list, obviously not olympic ready (fingers crossed) but I think these two have high ceilings for the next few years

I am forever proud of maglio
She went from a shy and timid freshman to one of Hawaii best players of the 2010s imo.
Now she’s starting on the national team of her country.
She is a gem and forever will be a fan

What's the (CIS : NCAA) ratio? Depends who goes but of regular starters King, Howe, KVR, Murmann, Pallermo, Jost, Livingston, Savard, Robitaille are all from Usports, granted KVR I'm pretty sure went pro after only a couple years at UBC. Maglio, Cross, Mitrovic, Van Buskirk, White, Gray, Ogums, Joseph all played in NCAA. I feel like in most given lineups with starters or second string it would usually be close to a 50:50 split.
