Did anyone catch the USPORTS finals? I missed it and have been trying to find it on YouTube. So unfortunate that Manitoba lost to Alberta in the semis… I wanted to see the Manitoba vs UBC rematch

Guezen just feasted hitting over a 5’5 setter in that semi. But with that said, that semi final was the best usports women’s vball match i’d seen

Really impressive for a first year. Do you know what injury Surinx was coming back from? From the highlights of the bronze medal game it didn’t look like she played

Guezen was incredible in that match. Really impressive for a first year. Do you know what injury Surinx was coming back from? From the highlights of the bronze medal game it didn’t look like she played a pretty bad ankle sprain, it happened their weekend at Alberta in Feb. they won the first 3-1, went up 2-1 in the second match when she got injured and then she only came back when they beat UBC last weekend. Then she rested in the qf, played semi (where she was limping the whole time it looked), and then rested again. I’m surprised she played post season tbh

For those who watched, did anyone notice any particularly eye catching talent for the national team pipeline who haven't gotten any looks yet? I personally found myself really impressed by Acadia's MB Erica Fisher, MacMaster's OH Sullie Sundara and Alberta's OH Abby Guezen. While these players are not senior NT calibre yet, they all had a certain dynamism that really caught my eye

I only watched Fisher play in the semis and she didn't really stand out since Acadia was so outmatched. But Sundara was impressive! I know she represented Canada before - on a U20 team? - I hope she gets some looks in the future! I’ve got my eye on Ronnie Dickson on Alberta - she’s got the size and physicality to develop into a great MB. Also Julia Arnold from Manitoba should be on the NT radar having led Canada West in digs this season. Obviously a healthy Surinx… some good talent coming out of USport!

UBC looked tight and really struggled in this match. If not for a great serving performance, things could've gone south fast. It was a really bad time to have connection problems between Izzy and Lucy. Definitely "we're the favourites, thing's aren't going according to plan" vibes... but they pulled through. Kacey was having a rough passing day, but I think without her leadership and court presence UBC falls apart.
Other than that, it wasn't really that exciting a match. Guezen looked fatigued from the semis where she poured her heart out.
Alberta and Manitoba looking in prime position next year returning the core. UBC as well, but losing Claire and Kacey are huge.

It looks like Brie King is staying in Brazil for another season. She is dating a Brazilian middle blocker. I was wondering about this because I noticed a while ago that there were no more pictures of her husband on her ig... so no Novara? I was really hoping!! It is confirmed now.

2024 Volleyball Nations League Schedule en.volleyballworld.com/volleyball/competitions/volleyball-nations-league/schedule/#fromDate=2024-05-13Current WR (this changes after every match played): #10 Netherlands 287.94 #11 Canada 265.66 (22.28 back of Netherlands) #12 Germany 228.36 (59.58 back of Netherlands and 37.3 back of Canada) #13 Thailand 222.00 (65.94 back of the Netherlands, 43.66 back of Canada, 6 back from Germany) Many people believe that it will between Canada and Netherlands for the last Olympic spot, but I would not rule out Germany (or Thailand)...the head-to-head matches will be important, but isn't everything. It will be important for all these teams to win the matches they need to, and perhaps upset a higher-ranked team or two. Also, winning matches as efficiently as possible could help a bit. Nah, Thailand is cooked. Unable to win consistently against the rest of the VNL teams.
I think even Germany has like a 5% chance given how far back they are

I’m kind of surprised we’ve got so many setters on the roster. I thought Robitaille and Baker were done with the NT and I’m not sure about Noble’s potential. The only setters that will compete with O’Reilly down the road are Pelland and Allard.
