Please note that we should all make an * here on Volleytalk and the AVCA coaching polls next to every upset for the remainder of the season with a link to the options A-Z with explanations as to why it really wasn't an upset. 😏

I agree. I only use the rankings as a frame of reference because it makes it easier to write it all up. I wish we didn't have any men's volleyball rankings until the first conference matches are played in every conference.

Funny how some people tout poll rankings when their favored teams are at the top, claiming a poll ranking indicates the dominance of that team towards everyone else. And when they lose, now the same people say, don’t look into the polls more than you should.
Here is the truth as I see it, polls are meaningless unless you feel it has meaning. it’s way too early to know how anyone will stack up at the end of the season. First it was oh UCLA head over heels over everyone because they’re bringing everybody back so number one is where they should be, then they lose twice , then it was oh Ohio State is number one because they beat a really good UCLA team , then it was, Penn State is the real deal because they beat Ohio State, then they lost. And don’t forget about Stanford and GCU, both undefeated and so good then Stanford lost.
Now this week everyone’s trying to predict the polls, and the same people who said UCLA will repeat because they are head over heels better than everyone else-those same people that thought UCLA were untouchable, now say polls don’t matter. I agree, but what changed your tune now? Some coaches are using the pre-conference matches as an opportunity to play different players in different lineups against different teams, and their philosophy is simple, now is the time to grade the players, see who shines and see who needs work. because winning your conference, or getting an at-large bid is all that matters.
