Bruin basher. Bibiana Candelas had a career-high 26 kills against UCLA.
Middle blocker Bibiana Candelas was named Pacific-10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Monday after a career performance against UCLA last Friday.
Candelas' 26 kills, seven blocks and three digs carried the Women of Troy to their first Pac-10 victory and earned her first weekly honor, USC's 36th all-time.
The award marks the second consecutive year a USC women's volleyball player has been honored after going into Pauley Pavilion and having a record-setting match. Last year, libero Debora Seilhamer set a school record with 45 digs in a five-game victory over the Bruins.
The game was USC's 10th straight victory against UCLA.
In the newest American Volleyball Coaches' Association poll, the Women of Troy moved up two spots to No. 17 after their victory against UCLA, who fell four spots to No. 21.
USC is the only team in the top 25 without a winning record, with its win against UCLA on Friday moving it up to 5-6 overall, 1-2 in Pac-10 play. All of USC's losses have come against a team currently ranked no lower than 13th.
The conference win also moved the Women of Troy up to sixth in the Pac-10.

A new player on USC's roster, outside hitter Gordana Barac, was in uniform for its game against UCLA.
Barac, a 6-foot sophomore from Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, provides depth to a depleted roster that lost two potential starting outside hitters to injury and transfer.
